hi guys.
i will be doing a minor service on my car this weekend, just the routine oil and filter change( have been told and read that motorocraft filters are the ones to get..can i get these from bursons or autobarn?) my old man has been putting penrite...hpr15? i believe it to be in my car and from the things ive seen on here people dont seem to like it! my car has ~271,XXXkms has been regularly serviced etc runs quite well apart from minor hiccups with the transmission! i get noise from the hla's on start-up and sometimes i can hear them after driving it. my oil pressure gauge seems to usually read 3/4 or FULL (which cant be good, maybe somethings not working right) but i have seen it be around 1/2 way mark aswell! i would just like to know what oil people would recommend for my car that works well in their experience..also as to some other things i should check/replace when servicing my car...such as fuel filter (ive been told this can fix my cars hunting idle?) thanks for any responses!

penrite sin50, arguably best oil for our 6's
most oil filter would be just fine if you stick to service intervals, they should be changed every 30000km but i do m ine every 15k, make sure you put some injector cleaner fluid in there to

Should be done every oil change at no more than 15,000, better at 10,000. |

Your ISC might be hanging open, give it a clean sith some throttle body cleaner, do the throttle body while you are there. HPR15 is fine for our taxis. My oil pressure usually site about 4psi, about ½ way up the guage. drops slightly at idle as expected. where your oil pressure sits is fine, if its going off either end or hanging in the orange it not good.
I usually use Ryco or Motorcraft filters, avoid Coopers, I've used 3, of theose 3 2 have leaked. Change your fuel filter while your there, only $15 for a new one.

Everybody has a different opinion on oil. Mine is that there is f**k all difference between them, so long as you are using the right viscosity and a brand name oil.
As said, Ryco or Motorcraft Filters are the way to go. If you can hear the HLA's, they are slowly on their way out. Happens to every falcon. Cheap and easy to change. |

don't be a tight a**. a Motorcraft filter is $10 from your local Ford dealer. so may as well change it. good piece of mind thing.

I have done my mechanics trade, owned over 10 different Falcons, raced them through club events, and i quote directly from 'my' service manual - "oil filter replacement is recommended each time the engine oil is replaced'', the service intervals state "recommended" service intervals, not enforced, under heavy conditions it is recommended to service more often. Perhaps think before posting stupid comments again. I also change mine every 5k as i care for my cars, and "im" not a tightass when it comes to their needs. Putting clean oil with a dirty filter = stupidity |

I do Oil AND filter every 5000k's. each to their own mate, as i stated before, the manufactures that design, engineer and build these cars recommend that they are changed every second service. i have had a very long convo about this with a ford mechanic when i took a car in for a service and the oil filter hadn't been changed. sure you may be a mechanic by trade you say this, my mechanic says otherwise. on the ford service manual i have it says every b service, which comes every 30,000km also as i stated before, have you ever opened up a filter at 10,000kms compared to 20000km to see the difference??? i have and it was s**t all. surely there is no harm in changing it every service, i never said their was, but is it really necessary?? i think not

Ford, among other MAJOR manufacturers change filters at EVERY service. Only recently have service intervals been pushed past the 10000km mark. If you want to risk your motor, that is YOUR choice, don't inform others that it is not required to change filters every service, when it essintially, if extremely important that an oil filter is as fresh as possible. btw, it's only $7 for a filter, don't be such a tight a***.

Penrite in my experience was rubbish... had noisy(er) lifters with the correct weight, went to Nulon and they died down a fair bit.
lol's at 30,000km oil filter changes! |
