Ive got an EF series II. Just recently and slowly with more occurences its been misfiring a little, its usually when its under load ( up a hill or giving it accel in 4th). or generally just givin it some, but not all the time??
i know sweat d**k all about why it might be happening, my initial thought was fuel inpurities or something like that but, it also hase a little bit of a rough idle, and with the only performance mod at present being panel filter, this is not normal?? Ive read posts about timing and this seams to fit, i havnt touched the computer as i wouldnt even know where it is...and i think ive read that with EF's you cant change timing at the ecu anyways? so it just might have swayed over time...anyways im just rambling so any thoughts would be great!! thanks JoHN

i suspect another fuel problem. fuel filter might be blocked. had same problem when i was revving the car more then 3000 revs it hesitates and just starts to stutter. if not sparkies or sparkie leads might need to replaced. ummmmmm i heard something with the timing in the shat could also cause misfiring? someone correct me on that one.

I have ef falcons come into work all the time with missfires usually caused by crap on the crank angle sensor and mostly stuffed coil pack

With a missfire the first things you should check is your leads & plugs. Then take it from there.

i sound like a real nOOb but do i check the leads by having the car running and then just pulling the lead off abit and seeing if theres a strong spark?
and plugs i guess you take them out still plugged in and see if theres a spark inside that?

no, you use a multi meter to check the leads, you want the setting on ohms.

i have the same prob with my EF witch i suspect is the fuel pump. to check it sometimes when i am standing outside the car as its idleing i can hear a werring sound which i beleve would be the fuel pump about to go.
it may be the same 4 u. mine misses completely randemly tho, iv tried to find a pattern to it but is started missing everywhere. i doubt it would be ur leads because if they were fulty the would just stop, and same with filters, it would be constant missing. good luck with it m8. |

i just noticed something i havent noticed on previous ef falcons (all manual, this one auto).
mine misses for a second when the high-speed thermo's kick in. currently it's idling around 50-100rpm too low, so i'll have to fix that too.

i got an EA falcon.. and it's doing a very similar thing... i've changed the fuel filter.. didn't help.. i'm about to buy spark plugs and leads.. and replace those.. and hopefully that will fix it.... coz when it was missing.. i really gave it some stick.. and it popped a few times.. and make a crack out the exhaust ... so think it's spark...

plugs and leads are cheap enough. if you dont know whent he last time they were changed was just do it. by the time you d**k around checking resistences you almost have the new ones back in already. i have changed my plugs and leads 3 times in 3 years. once was because it got wet though.
so i would of done it twice in 3 years normally
