don't you just have to go to a licensing centre to get a permit?

what you need is an engineer's certificate... unless that doesn't apply to you people in WA either...
Cheers

Yes, you need to get a certified engineer to go over all you mods and IF he feels they are up to standard and safe, he will write up a report listing ALL the vehicles mods, then you take this to your Transport Dept and they will list them on your registration. Some states issue you with a metal plate with the mods listed on it... other states require you to carry the paperwork.
Mods to fuel system/managment are a different story though |

yep, massive poo! there's a reason why most modded cars arn't engineered, but its totally worth the effort

You just have to go to the licensing centre. Kris did it a few months ago and got a permit for his turbo, intercooler, blow off valve, aftermarket bucket seats, mags, momo steering wheel and tacho. No dramas at all.
I think it costs you like $20 for a permit and you can get a couple things on each permit. I didnt think you needed an engineer unless you are changing a structural thing like cutting bits out of the bonnet or boot. |

Oh and if they reject something, they dont give you a yellow - they tell you what you have to fix, and then come back and they will give you a permit.

unbelieveable...Maybe I should move to WA? Are you sure you don't need a certified engineer to go over it? I mean... Its pretty serious stuff if you did it yourself, your palying with fuel, exhaust, electronics, and lots of other things. Some turbo installs are very dodgy and dangerous... yet they would be allowed in WA?
Cheers

I guess it was a little easier for my brother's car as he was converting a N/A VL to a turbo. But the intercooler, blow off valve etc wasnt a problem and they arent standard (he now revs it high and changes gear every time he goes past a cop just to rub it in).
There was something that they said wasnt done properly, and just told him how to fix it, and come back when it was fixed and they gave him a permit. |

I guess fuel management may be a different story altogether though like chef said

yeah man
WA has the slackest and dumbest laws regarding cars i wouldnt be surprised by anything Over here they dont do a yearly roadworthy, instead leaving it up to police to yellow sticker people at theere discretion. There are so many s**t rust buckets going around that probably couldnt stop in an emergency. (Yet the cops like to defect on P platers and nice cars,) If they did a yearly inspection the dodgy cars would be off the road. We would also be less of a target for police to pick us up for mods and whatever.

I've heard thats its easy to turbo a na VL as it was an option from factory.

Yeah, that part is easy. But they didnt have the intercooler, BOV, gay a*** tacho, etc etc from factory.

intercooler, BOV, and tach aren't that serious of mods. So they might ask for an engineers report for a turbo on a falcon, or the EMS, and probably the twin throttle bodies.
Cheers
