Just saw these modified motors on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Modified-AU-4-0- ... dZViewItem

Would it be difficult installing these into an EF, and what would the advantages/disadvantages if an AU motor in an EF?

Would there be dramas with the ECU?

I spoke with the guy from Aussie Car Recyclers a while
back in reference to the AU engines there in the Ebay link.

He told me that the "low kms" refers to a bracket of 50,000 to
100,000 km and they just take the next one off the rack
whatever kms it has on it for the Ebay sale.

With regards to fiiting to the E series cars, he said they go
straight in for the EF and EL and the ECU is OK. I think there
are some issues with crank angle vs dizzy, but I don't quite
understand this bit.
If one wants to fit them to an EA to ED, 2 options can be taken.
1. Replace the BBM with the standard manifold from the EA-ED
and run the existing ECU, or...
2. Leave the later model BBM in place and switch to an EL ECU.
(Option No.1 is certainly the easiest one)

He was pretty helpful, and I guess the option remains to go
direct to his workshop and pick an engine out. However, I believe
the non-Ebay sale price is around $900.

Just thought I would add these comments.

The AU motor I got for $500 had a tag on it that said "AUIII Wagon 43,000km"

i got my motor there, god damn they r cheap now i paid $700 but that was with everything....Pwr steer pump, alternator, air con, etc etc so it was a simple drop in the motor with a little taken off the sump, and modified a/c bracket.

Whats the difference between a normal AU 4.0L to a XR6 AU motor (without vct)
