ok. this may sound a bit funny but my car seems to have more go when its cold. not just started first thing on a winters morning, but after a bit of a warm up when i put my foot down it seems to have a decent amount more 'oomph' then later when it has properly warmed.

THIS IS NOT WHEN THE AIR IS COLD, JUST WHEN THE ENGINE IS COOL.

what could be causing this.

unusual as everything is cold, and there is much more friction in the driveline. maybe there is a air leak in the engine, but i doubt that u would have more power when cold, might just feel like it.

How long a warm up are you talking about? Maybe your cars getting too hot the rest of the time? What worries me is that your giving it to her when she's cold. Dang, I warm my wagon up idling for almost 5 minutes in the morning, and then roll down the hills till the highway, then put a long on the first highway bringing it to speed and by then she's in the normal temp spot!

not good to idle a engine when cold. best way to warm a engine up is to start it a drive straight away. helps stops carbon build up and glazing of the cyl bores.

i didnt know that, however i am not punching it when its cold, only like 30% throttle at max, and im not revving it high, however i can clearly feel more pull

(saying i dont rev it high, even when the bloody thing is hot it never goes over about 4K)

maybe what your saying about it getting to hot maybe right. ill tell you another story.

i owned my car for around 2yrs and ever since i bought it the temp gauge never went overboard (it almost never even made it half wway up the normal bar) when ever it got about 1/3 the way up the normal bar the fan would come on. then when i got my new engine i thought it miight be a good idea to change the thermostat. so i did, and since then the temp has never been the same and the fan wont come on until the temp gaugeis up around 2/3 or 3/4 (not that it gets there very often, normaly sits around half way)

Yeah it's very possible. The ECU will run the car the same as at WOT, when ECT is low. Could also be running it very rich too. It's designed to get engine temp up quickly. When it'll then run in 'closed loop' mode (picking best run strategy by using all the sensors)

WOT - wide open throttle
ECT - engine coolant temp

my ef also did this, it had so much more pull when it was warming up, and that was only half throttle.
I put it down to the polished intake plumbing i put on it, which ran past the extractors.
I think it may have made the difference.

In the cold weather you didn't notice it though, only in the hot weather.

my eb do,s it sometimes when its warm feels more sluggish but other times when warm it kicks a*** i just think its the ecu and air temp ,checked and replaced everything else

it sounds as though the CTS isnt registering the right engine temp to the ECU. Because the the ECU uses the CTS to calculate the correct air/fuel ratio at certin engine temps therefore when the engine is cold the the CTS give the the ECU a cold temp signal so the ECU runs the engine with a rich air/fuel ratio, which would be why youve got more oomphh when cold and runs like crap once its warmed up because the ECU still is getting a cold signal from the CTS so the ECU continues to run a rich mixture.

hmm, definantly a possibility, how much and how hard is it to replace this? is it DIY or more labour dough??

Yeah, it sounds like you might be running a bit rich. Check your spark plugs after a hard run once its warmed up.
If they're black you're running very rich.
