Has anyone used the american FL1A oil filter ? They seem to be a better quaility filter then the s**t AFL1 we get here.
This is from the motorcraft web site Engineered specifically for Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles, each Motorcraft® oil filter, including the popular Motorcraft® FL-1A, uses as many as 12 high-quality components. Construction features include: - Steel Cases "Ironed" for a precise fit, fluted to ease removal and painted for rust-resistance. - Pressure Relief Valve When it's cold outside or if the filter becomes clogged, oil flow through the filter can be reduced. If this happens, the relief valve opens to provide a continuous oil supply. They are avaliable from ford dealers with a list price of $8.00 + Gst Part Number Is D9AZ6731A. Only bad thing is the are buy on demand which will mean a 3 -4 week wait. |

Here are some pictures of the 2 oil filters. The one on the right is the USA FL1A (AFL1MC over here)
After looking on the internet these filters seem to be a way better filter then the thailand crap we get here. If you google FL1A you will find some pictures of them been cut open. For $8.80 List i think it's worth the try. You can also get FL820S oil filters which is a AFL73MC for the V8 which is a way better filter as well. |

Mate they are avilable from your local ford dealer part no D9AZ6731A. I work at a ford dealership so i know they can get them. These are a buy on demand item from ford (Approx 3 - 4 week wait) they only got 12 sent over (1 box) and we grabbed all 12. But i supose if a fair few people did request these filters i dont see why ford wouldnt keep them in stock. What the stoopid thing is dealer price is cheaper then a AFL1MC.

Why not try the AFL1HP? these were the filter used for the GTHO's

I did look the price up on that filter it had a different part number. I think it was around $20 dealer price but they are a better filter again. I wonder if there is any at ford or if they are buy on demand as well. But will get that part number tomorrow

The factory filter that were fitted to the EB, ED, EF & EL's were a grey colour, and had embossed on their bottoms, " Motorcraft". they also had the fluted design....just like Mann filters do.
The replacement filters are Ryco's.......and no longer made here in Australia.

Has anyone used a FL1A on a BA Turbo??? I'm currently using an AFL1MC filter and thinking of changing to a FL1A oil filter.
NB: I recently quickly checked out an AFL1MC filter and saw a red looking diaphram type (anti-drainback valve). The pics above is black in color and that's the same colour on FL1A oil filter. I believe the red type is a silicone rubber diaphram-type anti-drainback valve as apposed to being Nitrile rubber (black type). Is it possible FORD have changed to a silicone type? What do you guys reckon using FL1A Nitrile rubber on a BA Turbo???? |

The black rubber ones have a smaller holes than the orange rubber ones. The black rubber ones are the same as a Ryco Z9.
