I have 1 straight thru muffler & 1 resonator on my manual EB I6, doesn't sound too bad, but it would sound a lot better if I had a cam in the engine. It's not overly loud either. Actually sounds better since the resonator was fit, prior I was running just a cat, 1 straight thru muffler & then just pipe.

A mate of mine has an auto AU falcon I6, extractors, 1 muffler & one resonator, and it sounds really good, doesn't drone at all. It really depends on who builds the exhaust.....

Cheers

ToranaGuy

iirc spoondog had no mufler at all on his ef at one stage... sounded pretty bad dude..

Yep i did, when i was 18 i thought the louder it was the faster it was... how wrong was i.. it sounded like a** lol

But even with 2 mufflers a high flow cat and 4480, and a 1673 cam it still sounded average from the outside, maybe with a bigger cam and headwork they would sound good, but its not worth it.

I've been wondering about the V8 sound for ages too compared to the straight 6 sound. I won't deny that the sound of a V8 idling s**t all over the sound of a 6. I have a mate with a 253 in a truck that still manages to sound good. There's one thing that I would really like explained though. A 5L has a smaller displacement per cylinder than a 6. The 302 in an EL has a capacity of 4942cc, which is 618cc/cylinder. The 4L has a capacity of 3984cc, which is 664cc/cylinder. So technically, based on volume alone, the 6 "should" sound deeper. The only advantage the 8 has is a uneven firing order compared to a 6, and add a lumpy as f**k cam to a 6 and it should sound every bit as good

But it doesnt

my car has an ebay 2.5 cat back with redback muffler and no resonator and it isnt even very loud, my sisters ed xr6 had a 2.5 inch with a lukey muffler and hot dog resonator and the thing crakled and popped every time i did a gear change and sounded like the world was coming to an end,

Funnily enough though the heads on a V8 make a lot of difference too, ever heard those big-a** Clevo 4v heads? They sound heaps better than the 2v's which still sound good!

currently looking at a 100cpsi High Flow stainless cat and brand new pacemaker 4499's fitted for $880.. mind you that's discounted as well. seems a bit steep to me. i've already got a full 2.5" Redback catback with a muffler and resinator. sounds not to bad.

Get a hooker aerochamber off ebay for $130 (I think when I bought mine) and a 12" glass pack, then get out the mig or take it to an exhaust shop.
