Well - Ive decided to put an AU Engine in the Car.

Its now Day 5, and its still engine-less.

Day 1 was spent on logistics,
Day 2 was spent removing engine
Day 3 was spent cleaning and prepping
Day 4 was spent Changing the Auto Bellhousing, the EF Gear required into the AU Engine, and checking stuff.
Day 5 : Im completely redoing the Wiring to support the AU Rear Temp Sensor, the AU TPS, and ISC as well as Knock Sensor. Ive done it properly, and removed the original Coolant Sensor wiring. Ive also added the wiring required to support LPG (neatly) directly into the Harness.
I also cut the K-Frame - Need to arrange welding tomorrow.


As I see it theres at least another 2 days in it - but will be done right.

Good work Nigel, are you using an AU ecu or E series? cant remember which model your car is sorry...

are you sticking with AU alternator/aircon/power steering or are you just bolting all the original stuff back on?

im probably going to do an AU swap sometime in the future and figured I would just pull everything of the EF engine, BBM the lot, and bolt it all onto the AU so basically all id be changing is the block/head/etc. but with the modified sump so no cutting the K frame...

Im using a combination of things.

EF ECU (not worth changing)
EF Top Manifold (for ACT Sensor)
AU Bottom Manofold (no reason, just seemed easier at the time)
AU Throttle Body (It doesnt have the hold for the Rear PCV, and I dont need one as I hav LPG)
AU TPS
AU ISC
AU knock Sensor
AU Crank Trigger (Identical to EF one)
EF Cam Sensor
AU ECT Sensor
EF MAP Sensor.
AU Alternator
BA Water Pump (cheap on Ebay from Bayford)
EF P/S Pump (Bolts on)
EF A/C Pump

Interestingly, Im going to hang on to the AU Top Manifold, as I think the AU TMAP Sensor has some interesting posiblities if I ever go for aftermarket ECU's

Ok - Have some photos on my Camera - will try and get them posted tomorrow night.
The Wiring Harness is now done (Total Cost to redo completely - $6 for two rolls of *good* electrical tape)
I called in a Mobile Welding Guy to get the KFrame welded up. Id done the cutting up yesterday, but didnt feel up to the welding. Its been 10 years since I welded anything.
The guy rocked up, pulled out a Stick Welder, and Stick welded the K-Frame. Said that a MIG wouldnt have enough penetration. Much nicer job than I could have done, so I guess thats money well spent.
Tomorrow is Paint Day for the K-Frame, and then the gearbox and Engine go back in.
There are a couple of things I dont have sorted yet.....
The Alternator Wiring (The AU2 Alternator has different wiring plug - same wire colours though)
Some LPG Wiring (Just needs redoing)
and a Solenoid Trigger ;)

Its an EF - So Im using the BBM. Half new, half old.

Im spending the evening putting the engine in. Cant wait for it to be done now.

I find it funny that someone would say that, seeing as though, if anything, MIG would have more penetration. Out of curiosity, how much was it?? I would have TIG'ed it for the same, and a much nicer looking weld. Bit of black paint and you wouldnt notice the difference anyway.

Maybe an ultra cheap MIG wouldn't be so great but any decent MIG is typically the pick for most steel work on cars these days as far as i'm aware. Certainly in race cars. I used to work for a fabricator that made all sorts of stuff including off-road race cars and rock sliders, which cop a real pounding, and you wouldn't catch him dead with a stick. Not to say stick isn't good though.

Daz - where were you when I was asking for someone to weld these a few months back!!!.

Cost was $200.

Pics may be up this arvo : I need the car this arvo. Engine is in, All 6 of the bolts from gearbox to the engine are in (yay!). I have a cm of clearance all round at the front. Everything from underneath is connected. I just need to finish off the wiring, throw a few plugs together, and fill er up with fluids now.
