my EL's boot likes to immerse itself in rainwater even after I gave it a new boor rubber. This would be a good thing if I wanted to have a swim after work in the boot of my car, but I just want it to be a normal boot for carrying stuff, not a wading pool for children. Is this a normal EF/EL problem or is my EL gifted.

my brother takes the cake i think.... he drives a vs statesman, and decided to put a sub in his boot... after being asked if he had checked where the fuel tank was, his response was "i know what im doing OKAY"
he went to work, and came back to find his boot full of petrol... thus he will now never live down the "petrol powered sub" joke

This has happened to my EB yea so much that the spare wheel well was full and so puller carpet out and pulled the plug let it drain, took the side plastic covers off and found water was leaking behind tail lights through into the boot

yes it is, considering he's an apprentice fitter and turner...lol lol, i piss him off all the time by saying "s**t, your sub sounds louder today...you running premium again?" and to this date, his only comeback to that is, a two worded one...

don't think it's the tailights, just replaced one as it was cracked. It's hard to tell and the rear screen isn't rusted.

Parking my EL down hill, it used to leak. Siliconed up the joins in the metal at the base of the rear windscreen (where all the water sits) and it hasn't leaked for years.
If you aren't sure where it's leaking, get in the boot with a torch and get a mate to hose the back of your car. Obviously this will have to be a good mate, probably bribed with beer, as the oppourtunities for a good practical joke here are endless..

its parked slightly downhill. Did the boot test but it didn't leak with the hose hitting it but it leaks heaps with heavy rain. Maybe I could run the hot coolant thru the boot and have a Nulon enhanced spa. Or maybe I should just remove the bootlid and let it fill right up for year round swimming. Although then I couldn't fold the rear seats for fear of a flash flood.

My sisters EL was doing it when she was parking it front first on a declining drive. The area at the hinge end just keeps filling up until it just goes over the rubber seal and into the boot. Strange design right there, not very clever!!
Consequently there is now a layer of rust on the underside of the boot lid from the condensation sitting there over many months. It seems the car has to be parked fairly level in the E car or your boot becomes royally f**k up over time... |
