Hi,

My extractors on my BA XR8 have little spots on them? They are mild steel John Bowe extractors.. The spots look like rust. Most of them are up around the top of the extractors where they are bolted on to the head. The spots are very small, maybe a few mm each but there are many.

Does this mean they are on the way out and will soon crack or lea? or just discoloured and nothing to worry about?

Should I get ready to replace or not to worry? any suggested fixes?

All of the cars I've had with extractors had the same thing happen. When the paint surface is scratched or paint flakes off, rust spots form. You don't need to replace them. Just sand the paint with fine Wet or Dry, treat the rust and repaint them. Best done off the car.

I've got a set of extractors that's 2 years old and need repainting already. If you have some spare cash, you could get your extractors ceramic coated.
