I bought this 1999 AU XR6 last week in Durban South Africa. The problem is that it wont start. The seller told me that it starts if you pour petrol into the throttle body. Secondly the LCD display on the cluster doesn’t work. Its just dead. All the warning light are in working condition. He suggested that it might be the the “cam sensor.”

The car is in a very good condition and I am the “second” owner as he had it for about two months and did not register it on his name. Can any one offer some advice?

Pouring petrol into the throttle body? Good way to get yourself burnt if not careful, haha.
But that would tell me the fuel pump is not working, which could either be the fuel pump or the relay. Either that or injectors aren't pulsing, but I don't know how to check that apart from using a noid light.

if it starts after pouring fuel down throttle body, the first thing i would be doing is replacing the fuel filter(located under car, just in front of passenger side rear wheel),as it may be blocked.Lcd display in dash may just need globe replaced so you can read it.

Will hear from the mechanic today. Yesterday he said that it seems to him the car needs a transponder key? I think he was referring to the smartlock but he will confirm all of this today. I will also give him some pointers based on the advice I received.

Cheers vir eers!!! :D :D

Today the mechanic said he thinks its the PCU??? I do have a PCU and BEM from a Futura but will it work on a 99 xr6? They are both AU`s.

Today the mechanic replaced the BEM,PCU and igniton with the ones from the 99 Futura. The ignition light and other warning lights on the intrument cluster came one. It was as first!!! The car still did not start. The mechanic said that there is no fuel reaching the injectors???????? What now???

Replace fuel filter and then check for blocked fuel lines or blocked/rusted out fuel rail.

Something new. The doors of another Falcon wont lock but the alarm is armed. So if you open the doors the alarm goes on. I tried to change all the lock but the problem still remains. The driver side door makes a funny noise. It think its the central locking unit but if you replace the unit must the keys be recoded?
