i bought a 3inch air intake for my car the other day and im happy with it performance wise, i just have one problem. when the bonnet is up the pipe is almost touching the intake manifold but when the bonnet is down i think it is pushing the pipe down even further so the air intake and manifold are now touching. this is giving heaps of vibrations through the bonnet and that makes a noise that is starting to s**t me, and makes my car sound like a piece of s**t.
it only makes the noise when the car is in gear and not moving (when its idling at its lowest) is there something i can put between them like a thin piece of rubber or something? but something to absorb the vibrations?? any suggestions anyone? helps appreciated cheers.

yes put rubber in between them....or some felt or something

What i would do is cut a small section off where it touches on the manifold, then invert it and weld it back on.
My BA intake has a recessed section where it passes over the bbm and have no problems |

or even better, maybe padded double sided tape? easy to obtain and wont budge easily

Dont muck around with tape, its obviously not clearing the bonnet, so get it fixed properly. |

might sound stupid but would squashing the pipe to an oval shape cause any issues? volume should remain the same and you get clearance above and below.. just a thought.. although maybe that does cause a restriction i have no idea :p

i know green machine uses a l;il piece of rubber matting on it.. and it works for him... i should do it too.. lol

I would suggest the same ^^^^^^^^^^^^, squish it a bit.

I think if you change the bonnet lining to an EL one it'll stop it pushing on the piping as it has more clearance, well according to these forums anyway.

Open your engine bay and get someone to start the engine and rev it - watch how far the engine moves.
Now look at what you've done - your connecting a solid firm pipe from the moving engine to the stationary air filter box (which obviously doesn't move as it's bolted to the cars body). While this may not be the cause of your vibrations, you really should have a flexible section in that intake pipe. |

Didnt notice that, but yeh, definetely should have some silicone pieces in there. You could add 2, one out of the airbox, and the other between the EL pipe and your custom pipe. |

supercheap has it. the reason i suggested 2 parts is because with one part it will make the angle of the piping wrong, but if the joiner is flexible enough it wont really matter.
