here is a pic of the manifold, thanks Waggin as you can see there are two runners, one is longer then the other. In theory, longer runners are better for tourque and lower motor revs (so a slower air speed tho manifold). so, when your cruising and putting around, you will make the most of the tourque made by the long runners, but when you give it a boot and pass 3300rpm (correct me if im wrong, it mite be 3800?) the butterflies get switched to change it over to the short runners for more top end and response (a higher motor rpm and air speed) it is a fairly good design... but my question is, should i take out the butterflies (wouldnt reccomend it with the std plenum) and run with both runners open?

personally i think you should. your 'long' runners are essentially going to be about 1-2" longer compared to the short runners... then again, doubt ur car would need any more airflow before ~3800rpm.

or will it take the easiest path (short runners) ?

It will take the path that is sucking the hardest. Its all a big vacuum so both runners will be 'sucking' just the shortest most direct one will gulp up the most. You've already lost bottom end by shortening the long runners, so its a case of loosing some more or not.

ahh k
i was more worried about the velocity, thinking having two runners open at the same time that it mite loose presure???

Go for a dip with the butterflys open now and see if you like how it plays, then close them and allow it to switch normally. Note the difference, if any, and make your decision based on that.
Your chasing top end, so it might even be worth welding a plate over the long runners and going with that... or chop the middle section seperating the two runners and smooth it out, give it as much as it wants... One last thing, the XR6t doesnt have the butterfly installed at all, now go away n ponder

Have not see inside one... But if they took the butterfly out, maybe they took all the other bits out too.
Chop the guts out of yours, turn it into a single runner and you will increase your plennum volume and your engine can breathe nice and good.
