Hi,

I have a NA fairlane that I believed had a 3.9L engine in it but when I was showing it to a friend he pointed out the engine has 4l OHC on the rocker cover.

How do I identify if this is a 4L engine or just someone has slapped a 4L rocker cover on it.

I was under the impression when I got the car the engine was rebuilt.

Regards

Barry

The Engine number is JGSWRS 80742

on the front of the head it has a 7 and 91AA

Also if it is a 4.0L it should have all the ECU components for a 4

Regards

Barry

there is a number missing from your engine number...

anyway a 91aa is a eb 4.0l head, but thats not to say that its not original bottom end with eb head..

no need to worry about changing the ecu, as the 4.0l is only 40cc larger in capacity and everything else is the same, eg, same injectors, reg, pump and ecu ect...

I think it may be a different block because the number on the plate is JG63JE 38668 T
if the block is off a 3.9L will that effectively make the engine a 4L still?
Could this be the cause of the unusually high fuel efficiency I am getting for a car of this size?

Regards

well if the block is a 3.9 then its still kind of a 3,9..
but from memory a 3.9 is 3948 cc a 4.0 is 3988 cc, so not much in it...

Not really. It's kind of just the same motor.
Probably find the original head had cracked or corroded at a stage in it's life.
