I've just had the grease monkey on the phone to me saying my ring gear is shot in the EF Auto EX TAXI my questions are as follows.
does any of the e-series ring gear fit? how much should it cost for a newbie or good second hand one? how much should it cost to put it in? |

Second hand ones cost $30.. I think all the e-series ones are compatible.. however the ones for the 3spd EAs might not. Not Sure.
Either way.. make sure the second hand one doesn't have worn teeth on it.. or you'll end up with another busted one in a few month's time. As for labour.. 2-3hrs I think.. change your rear main seal while you're there too. |

yup all E-A series flex plates should fit. i dont think you can replace the actuall ring gear as there welded to the plate. Also another thing im not sure if you can do it to fords but you might be able to pull the flex plate off and turn it so that the starter wont hit the worn part. but i think they only go on one way.

The ring gear is replaceable, you basically split it to get it off, then heat up the new one and gently bash it on
I don't think they are very expensive, might be easier to get a whole flex plate from the wreckers if you are worried about cost - although not sure what they would charge |

New one trade price i think is around $120, i wouldn't bother with second hand unless it's like new.
I could find out for you on Monday, you can drop down and pickup as i'm not that far from you, straight down the hume before Craigieburn. |

I only just sold my auto box and accessories last week, the driveplate was in good nick. With all the auto - manual conversions going on, surely someone will have a driveplate sitting around, and nearby to you as well.

Bear in mind, if the bolts are loose (as were in mine) it will make the same noise. Just finshing putting my engine back in as I fixed oil leaks and did head at the same time.

just get the ring gear reversed, shouldn't cost much at all.
