Hi, I have a friend that has an EB XR6 falcon, with a rebuilt bottom end, AU ported head, standard AU cam and a set of extractors its also running dual fuel.
The problem is he is only getting 100rwkw out of the thing.
We have checked the timing, sparkplugs and leads, removed the gas ring and run just on petrol all with no luck. Does anyone have any idea's what could be causing the power drop. I would of expected 125-135 rwkw from it.

Thanks.

I’ve heard a rumour that the AU Cam gear locating lug is about 5% offset to the EB one. If this is the case the cam timing will be out by 5%. Has anyone else heard about this, or can confirm its true?

What dyno?
On say a mainline or something I wouldn't say that it's THAT far off for what is a pretty stock motor.
I think 125-135 (genuine) is pretty ambitious.
Is it auto or manual?
If it's auto, how does it drive, could be torque convertor?

Cam timing thing sounds like shenanigans.
Even if it was, you are running the AU cam and head, and I doubt Ford would do it in an attempt to cripple the AU 4Ls.
Whack the dyno graph up if you can.

same q', auto or manual...... a half shagged auto can affect readings ALOT. Mine made 110rwkw with an auto/cam, then i converted to manual & fix a slight headgasket leak and gained 28rwkw

Also, why did he spend hundreds on porting the head, and stick with a standard cam? Im guessing maybe a backyard job?

Ggee honestly i i doubt that would be far off the mark either!
i mean i had a standard ED gli that first dyno'd up aat 88rwkw!
its not much mods when you think abou it

I'm not sure of the Dyno brand, but before the head change over it was making around 110 at the wheels with a standard EB tickford head on the same dyno. Given the porting work and extractors, also a rise in compression with the AU head gasket and the head machining I dont think 125kw is out of the question. As for the standard cam I can only imagine its something that will be changed over when funds permit.

It is an Auto, but nothing down that end has changed between the dyno runs. I know Dyno’s aren’t the best performance metering devices but I’ve driven the thing and I can tell you its not very exciting..
Has anyone had any issues with faulty coils/distributors causing performance drops, or are they usually just either working or not.

you will loose power with a duel fuel setup.

^^^^He said he tryed taking out the mixer ring... so no intake restriction from the dual fuel setup.

How was the AFR?

i would say the std au cam wouldnt help..
they have different duration specs compared to the std eb one.
the std au cam would probably give you more torque and less hp than the eb cam would.

i had a au engine in my ea and with the std cam it had great torque but didnt have quite enough up top and after fitting the tickford bits. ecu,cam ect
it lost alittle of its down low torque but made up for it mid range and up top. it then made 133 rwkw..

could be something not engine related. try the fuel filter, nothing like a little fuel starvation. injectors?

is it running the BBM?

i think im low on power, but i still need to check it. new injectors and the car drives great now. still lacking power slightly i feel :-(

Thanks for the responses so far.
He is running all EB accessories (inlet manifold and so on) all though he is running EL thermos.
I thought it might be fuel related also, but its also down on power on gas. Saying that I'll help him with a few more tests on the weekend, possible changing the fuel filter and doing some testing with a wideband sensor.

The head work was done by a local head reco place. Been a smaller town most business’ get a reputation on their work quality and these guys have quite a good one... On the flip side of that I saw the work they did and it look incredibility rough on both the inlet and exhaust ports, there were opened up a lot from standard, but the walls were not smooth and had large grooves in them.
Now I’m not an expert at all with this sort of thing, so maybe there is a good reason behind it, or maybe that’s how most porting is done. I know the theory behind leaving the inlet walls rough, but this seemed more than I would expect.
I’ve taken some photos of it, I’ll dig them up and see what you guys think.

Change the inlet manifold to an ef-el dual band, you will notice a huge increase! I think everyone earlier thought you already had the au manifold with the head. You could just start by leaving the runner flaps open but there is plenty of info if you search on how to get the 3800rpm switching happening!

Also check the basics, AFR, manifold pressure and spark timing!

Check exhaust restriction. If it was overfuelling you may have a blocked cat, and they can be worth 30 kw. I remember at a fordmods dyno day, a stock ELXR6 made 100kw, due to a blocked cat, removed the O2 sensor to test and picked up 15kw.
