hey guys think I may have a blown head gasket?, getting smoke from the exhaust with water now (though hasn't been driven for a week now) smoke does go away once car has warm up, however water is still there, not 100% sure if its condensation or not, looked under the exhaust head shield and there is coolant there under the head on the number 4 or 5 block i think, cleaned it up for now and will check it soon again. (also once the car is turned off I get smoke steaming from the exhaust still, only way to see it is by putting my face close to it etc.
any cheap way to get this fixed?, low on the money has it is and I need to get rego, lifters fixed and trans leaks and tyres yet!!!

If your heads rooted mate, it probably going to be around the 2k mark. You could try some Bars stopleak and she might go for a k or 100,000 but its just a bandaid. If its your head I would say call around for a replacement complete motor and maybe box too. Some wreckers will do a motor in and serviced with low k's for $900. To do the head is not as simple as undoing a couple of bolts being a ohc, so the cheap way would be an engine swap, my thoughts anyway.

depends on how handy you are with the tools and if you have somewhere to drop it out/in.

lifters need replacing and as for the oil pressure the gauge is fuked my original fairmont cluster did that too then i replaced the cluster with a el chaser and now the gauge works fine
check ur oil filter check for bloating if its fine it will be wither faulty oil pressure sender or gauge i would almost guarantee faulty gauge |

ok guys will have 500 next month to spend on the car, gonna attempt to do it myself (with time and patience) so gonna have to get a list of what I will need to get all the parts and tools to do this job (kinda scared at the same time), but I wanna get into mechanics so this will be my good start etc.

Hi mate.
I had a similar fault like yours before. It is common that the head in the E series is weak on number 6 cyl. As u describled you had misfire recently. Which is the same thing like mine does before. Especially when it is cold. it should be the head then. I beat you he did checked the cyl 6 n water keep pumping out. And E series won't turn the oil into milky colour which happen to me the same. Bcause of the weakness in the factory head. It is an issue of that. You can do a simple test yourself to find out your mech is telling you the truth or not. Take the spark plug out from no.6 and start the car. If water pumping out from there. It is definately the head crack. The cheaper to fix it is put "Seal up" into the cooling system if yours still not in a real bad condition. Hopes it help |

here is spot under the number 4 or 5 cylinder head in the picture attached
Attachment: .....now the previous owner did say something about this being a au head, not sure how long ago it was replaced though. ....and I have been losing coolant, however the hose underneath the inlet manifold and and behind the air compressor is leaking so just though that was the reason why.... however might give this seal up a go on Wednesday.

just remember sealup and bars stopleak are band-aids not a fix. $500, I would be looking into a cheap donk and box off ebay and hiring an engine lift if you have the space and doing a changeover. WOuld thing a donk change over would be easier than a head.
