thats you welsh plugs ans correct me if I am wrong troyman a leaky plug will cause some backfire? If its you plugs, it a prick of a job but an easy one. I always could never understand the idea of hitting them in hard..... but not too hard. How hard is hard but not too hard?

Leaking welsh plug will not cause a missfire, just a loss of coolant, wait till you blow one right out at 5000rpm will 100% Glycol..... big white cloud..... :
As for knocking them in but not too hard, you ensure that the plug hole is clean, put a small amout of sealant on the plug and tap it in with an appropriate sized socket, you will hear it bed home by the change in the sound when you hit it in. Do all of them because if one is stuffed the others won't be far away. Also use Brass Welsh Plugs, more corrosion resistant. |

What colour is it? 3) Water from the exhaust. I assume you mean that you have water coming out the exhaust after the car has been running. Is it vapour is is there droplets of water? Does it go away when the car warms up? 4) To do the rear welsh plug at the back of the motor you will need to pull the box out. |

1) about a week or so, maybe 2
2)white smoke 3) before I start the car no water, after idling and reving it for 5-10min water is there, not huge amount just enough that its wett, and once I turn the car off lite smoke comes from it. 4) bugger ...edit Actually I do have a bit of water coming from the exhaust, got my gf to rev it and a whole gunk of brown water came out, could this be because when I was washed the engine the other night that I got some water in the spark plug holes?, has I accidentally did.

Sounds like you have a double problem,
1) Leaking Welsh plugs.. 2) Head gasket is leaking.. Go to a Radiator place and get them to do a CO check on the coolant. If the headgasket is leaking you should be getting exhaust gases into the coolant. |

Honestly mate, you d**k around with the welsh plugs and the head and seal/tappets and then fix the auto problems you have, to find those problems were hiding other problems that then need to be fixed. Unless the donk is a low k motor I reckon still the way to go is drop a low k motor and box in at your relo's place. Spend right and have the replacement motor tested if in the car by someone who can test compression and coolant mix before you buy it and then get your relo to help you do the swap. I just feel your going to be chasing you tail on the current setup you have and in the long run it will cost you more and more.

Hell. I am convinced that someone may have suggested on page one that buying a spare motor and rebuilding that would be an awesome way to save money, learn about the workings of the car and get the super bonus of being able to say you did it yourself.
Awesome idea. Second hand engine from pick-a-part $300. Experience and fun, priceless. Honestly, changing head gaskets and having to remove the bellhousing to get at rear welsh plug... Well... Mate, buying an engine and looking at it on the bench and working on it... Absolutely the way to go. The current engine will get you around long enough that you can use the car to collect parts! |

I was looking at the athol park ford wreckers down here and they have ef/el motors for $550 and to get it installed will be $1000, either way will be the same price has I dont have any tools to get the motor out, well I do but very basic stuff, was just looking at the sprint auto catalog today and they have a complete set of jack stands, jack lift, wheel lockers etc etc for $99 which I am thinking about getting this week hopefully,
Kinda scared of doing it myself has I've never work on cars at all, though I am willing to give it a shot has long has i just take my time with it, though having little money (no job) makes it hard etc, also loaded a new video on youtube trying to locate the leaking head gasket etc.....note can see the leaking welch plug in the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaxHre3PrwM
