Ok heres my thing
I have an EL gli wagon with a tired engine and a pretty much dead auto, it still drives but just I have also got an EF Fairmont Ghia with a really good engine and auto trans but car is smashed What i want to know is, can i put the engine and trans from the EF into my EL, i know i need to fit a dizzy to the EF engine (or do i ??) Will i need an XR6 dizzy and ECU to make it run right Is the trans control going to be different and if so can i swat it over Thoughts please |

you are right you will need to swap over the dizzy. you will also have to remove the crank angle sensor from the ef motor and replace the harmonic balancer with your EL one.
I am pretty sure using your ecu should be okay, you will just miss out on some of the performance due to different mapping. A J3 chip would probably fix that if it really bothered you. Also, i would change the inlet manifolds over as the el has a single wiring plug attached to it and the EF has two loose plugs.

before you put the ef motor in take out the aux shaft (Shaft Dizzy or Crank Angle Sensor Runs Off) and put the aux shaft out of the el motor in it. do this because it is a common problem when you put a dizzy into an EF or AU motor, they are highly likely to break

just had a look at the ecu catch codes and its a EL Fairmont Ghia with Tickford motor and Auto, there also was fairmont ghia ones with 6DJA and 6DJB

EF and EL ecu`s are different. The Tickford EL 6DJB should work fine with the Fairmont ghia motor as that was what it was designed for. You just need to ditch the coil pack and fit the dizzy and it should be fine.

are the ECU matched with the diff ratio as well?
Have been looking at the catch codes and most xr6-ghia ecu's are for 3.45 though there is one to suit a xr6/ghia with 3.23 gears and thats the 6TEE would it be wise to run the 6TEE ecu thats listed for the 3.23 gears ? http://74.125.155.132/search?q=cache:QH ... clnk&gl=au |

Firstly they are ALL the same Aux shaft from EA to AU and changing one OLD and tired Aux shaft for another OLD and tired Aux shaft seems counter productive to me and expensive. The lower part of the inlet manifold is the same EF/EL, just a change to the top half. The Throttle body is the same EF/EL. I thought that EF and EL had Crank sensor fitted? |
