also looked for an EA intake pipe, couldnt find one though. so went to mag n turbo out panmure. there doing me 3" pipe from throttle body to a pod filter with cold air box, they quoted bout $110.. not too bad?

Sounds pretty good but can't see it being much of a cold air box in with that? Pod will run you close to $100 alone without piping so that sounds pretty damn good. |

yeah i thought it was cheap too with air box, maybe i got him wrong haha? but ohwell il go see him again during the week. is 3" a good size? heard from my mate that it might be too much air, didnt think that would be a bad thing though

hey guys hopefully taking my spare cam to franklin after work this week if i get the time.
im looking at getting quite a upgrade from my cam so is it neccesary to get a 'j3 chip' what people talk about and how does it work? im guessing its just a different chip from the standard one so they can tune it on a dyno? correct me if im wrong please

A J3 chip would be good to get the most out of the cam upgrade. Problem is finding someone in NZ who is willing to provide a chip and custom tune it for the car on a dyno at a reasonable price. Ring around at some tuning places and see what prices they give you for supplying and custom tuning a chip.
Cheapest J3 chip you can buy would be one from Jason at TiPerformance in Aussie. Best bet would be to fit the cam after it has been done by Franklin's, book a time at a place who does dyno runs (Torque Performance in Avondale, Protune in Manukau, Eastern Automotive Performance Centre in East Tamaki, Auckland Performance Tuning in Papakura etc) and get a power run with AFR's done which will come with a print out. Should cost around $100~ from the quotes i have been given recently from Protune. With the dyno print out, send it to Jason at TiPerformance. He will be able to alter the tune for you, burn it onto the chip and send it out to you. Refer to http://www.tiperformance.com.au/buy.html for pricing etc. |

ok sweet gotcha, so if i put my newly ground cam into my car without getting a j3 chip or tuned it should run ok? or does it depend on how much the cam has changed?
