finally done. pacemaker comps hpc'd, red back 2 1/2 inch, high flow cat, and nice double tip. car goes a little better, still reluctant to really thrash it as it's only new. i noticed though that off the line it's much the same but that it keeps pulling in 2nd and 3rd. sounds sweet too. i was concerned it would be too loud but i think it's a bit too quiet. anyhoo, pics in gallery and i'll post some sound clips later today hopefully.
now i just gotta fix the brakes and gearbox you can tell i have my priorities in order.

Quik Q: Do rust spots appear on the HPC'd extractors over time?
I have extractors installed on my XF and six months later, rust spots were begining to appear.

No it wont, it will get quieter with a coating of carbon. The tone changes also with a layer of carbon. It certainly doesnt get lounder...

Sweet looking car, extractors look the goods as well.
It appears my standards pail in comparison to fuzion, as i was gonna compliment you on a tidy looking engine bay, lol. But then... look at the monstrosity under my bonnet and you'll understand why i appreciate a clean lookin engine, lol.

thanks fuzion. i know what u mean about under the bonnet. i should at least go over the plastics. i was gonna do the intake at the same time but thought i'd get the pacers coated instead. do u need to shield the pod? cuz i assumed so, but they reckoned it wasn't necessary. i was also concerned about getting enough air to it.
all up it cost *gasp* 1400. sounded a bit pricey to me but the coating cost $250... i thought i woulda found it cheaper but the few people i've talked to all reckon that's about the right price. i got it done by roadway mufflers in belconnen, here in canberra. they did a very nice clean job, and were easy to deal with so i would gladly refer anyone to them. and as for the tip i'm pretty happy with my choice too. although i think i coulda squeezed bigger pipes into the gap.

i think he may have been more referring to the fact you still have the EF intake plumbing under the bonnet, rather than general cleanliness...

ok I have worked out that hpc'd is a coating, but what is it and what advantage does it give..
Also on the mandrel bend intake pipe, tell me if I am wrong but if you make a metal one, it is going to heat up from the engine and you will end up with hot air going into the intake which of course you will lose power on so is it such a great idea? |

HPC = Heat Proof Coating.
It's a ceramic coating that has incredible insulation properties. We used it on a racecar i was involved with. Basically it keeps the heat in the pipes (we also did the cylinder head). Has little effect on a non-turbo car but it is a good idea to keep heat out of the engine bay. It will generate slightly higher exhaust velocities which will help the performance of the extractors. -see waggin's avatar for how much heat the exhaust can reject! Plus you can order it with a nice finish. On the cylinder head and inside the combustion chambers, and on the bottom of the valves it keeps heat inside the combustion chamber. Reduces load on the cooling system and helps power.
