The idear!
To use a pletier to Cool down intake temperatures to Below Ambient Temperatures! What could be done is fitting Pletiers to the underside of the intake piping on a EF/L then having a simple closed loop mini-Radiator system to cool em down. If this actually worked you could easly obtain 0 Degree intake temps which would improve performance Just wanted to hear your thoughts - mike |

It would only slighly cool down the intake if at all. The airspeed is high in the intake pipe so very little time to cool air.

Sure is - about 20,000L of air per minute when driving hard.
How much do you think peltiers would cool down 20,000L of air in a minute? Then think about how much electrical power it will take to cool the intake down that much. That electricity doesnt come for free.

It's actually not a new idea.
I don't want to sh*t on your ideas but it has been tried before and it has failed before. Biggest hurdle was too much airflow. Keep us updated if you do have a win though. Panda

There has been all sorts of similar ideas. The one that looked to me like it had the most potential was putting a water block around the intake plenum and pumping ice water through it. This would be much more effective than peltiers on the intake tube, but is still a novelty with questionable results.
The problems are: 1. You are fighting against the heat the engine puts out, and engines are very good at making things hot. 2. The air is moving fast so you get just a split second to cool it 3. No matter what you use to cool it, it will cost you power/performance in some way which offsets any gains 4. Considering the cost and complexity, the potential gains are small. You do get small gains (or less loss) from minimizing heat transfer from engines (CAIs, manifold spacers, non-conductive pipes, shielding or heat wrapping exhaust), but as far as active cooling goes it’s a waste of time in my opinion.

If you wanted to do that, a compressor would work better (assuming you could get past the air flow problem), peltiers are very inefficient.

As long as your using a compressor why not just pressurise the intake

Because you won't get a compressor (other than a turbo) that will have enough flow.

How about an intercooler immersed in some form of refrigerant? They have air to water intercoolers And yeah, turbo/superchargers dont cool the air, but has the same end result. You cool air to make it more dense, you compress air to make it more dense.
