just scored a set of au3 xr rims, 17 inch. suggestions fro tyres? i want them to be 245mm wide, ideal size would be 245/50/r17, or 255/45 R17

i am running maxxis radial ma-v1's thay are 17/45/235 on advati stalkers. i payed $135ea fitted and balanced, on the front the 235's are a bee's d**k off being unroadworthy for sticking out the gaurds it might be just my rims. good traction tyre but once thay spin thay smoke really well, i done a fair old burnout yesterday expected the tread to be a gone but it didn,t seem to have lost any. good tyres anyways.

yeah, my problem is with the 235/45's that i have now, im just over half an inch down on rolling diameter, so i need to have at a minimum 235/50's..
these are the sizes im willing to do... 265/45 255/50 245/50 235/50 all r17's

good luck finding those profiles.. you are aware that wall size is proportional to treadwidth. that beaing that the rolling diametre will remain virtually the same.. for what its worth get a good set of 235/45/17's and get your speedo recalibrated.. sounds more like a speedo out of whack than a tire profile issue.

i mesured the diameter of both 17' rims with 45's and 14'rim with a 65's and thay are that close that it doent matter. at first i though that the 20mm less in the profile wouldn't compensate for the 3" bigger rim size

i am a real fan of Kumho tyres, low road noise, good wear, and great grip, ECSTA 712's are probably the go for R17's

you have never had a set of yokie c.drives then.. but for the $$ kuhmos are damn good. I'm recommending them to a mate at the moment cause he is lookin at spending about $200 ish a tyre..
the youkies are @ about $265 a tyre.. but in the $200 range the kuhmos are bloody good.

yeah, i had the 711's on my last car 16's, and they were great, i've put three mates onto them and the 712's and agreed the value is awesome

yeah, dcodd, i am aware of that. the wheels i have now are 235/45r17's that i have now are of noticeably smaller diameter, thats my only problem...
will go to tempe tyres and have a chat to them i guess... how much is it to get the speedo recalibrated? will that compensate for the higher mileage due to smaller circumference? bear in mind that the difference in circumference for the 234/45r17 as compared to a 215/60r16 is about 10cm (it is a lot in the long run), as compared to a more desireable 255/45r17 being only 1cm... ie, for every 1000km, the odo only reads +10m.... i know its only a small difference, but i would like it to be as close to normal as possible, plus, wider tyres are better speaking of which, realistically, whats the max width i can put on the 8" wide rims?

i was in a tyre joint today and the and there tech guy told me that the profile just say 45 for example means that the profile height is 45% of the treads width. so that means if you have a 215/45/17 the profile height must be less than a 245/45/17 and thats why might not get a 245/50/17

yeah, i understand that, but the original was 215/60r16... iwas hoping to get as close to that in diameter as possible... im just gonna go to tempe tyres n see what they rekon

Your best bet will be 255/45 or 235/50

235/45/17 has the same rolling diametre as 215/60/16.
