Hey guys, new to the forum and car mods.
I have a stock 95 EF Fairmont. Would like a bit more power in most areas. If you could give me some ideas on what a good set up would be, and costs involved, it'd be much appreciated. Currently thinking of putting in a K & N filter, getting a bigger air intake system, and some extractors. What's a reletively inexpensive intake system and extractors that are fair quality? Appreciate all advice. |

A lot of that stuff doesn't mean much to me... I love cars, but know next to nothing. Hehe. I want to spend no more than say $700. What should i get for most gain out of an auto? |

What should i get for most gain out of an auto? no probs! i would say exhaust would be a good option! extractors + 2.5 inch catback will give you more of a rumble and also some more power at the wheels. how much power really depends on your engine. also i suggest to get a mechanics handbook about your car, very useful when your doing a stereo install from the stock one and wiring diagrams and the more technical stuff like removing suspension components and that. the easyest mod will probs be the 3inch intake. where you replace all the stock plastic intake with a 3" less restrictive intake system with a high flow filter will give you a better throttle response, and with the addition of a better flowing exhaust you will notice some good gain in power. |

jvangent wrote: also i suggest to get a mechanics handbook about your car +1 A good workshop manual is worth its weight in gold, most auto parts stores will carry them. Looking at about $50 for a good one. Also the search button at the top of this page (below the Fordmods logo) is a VERY useful tool. Try that before you start a new thread, odds are your question has already been asked before, and probably answered too. Also, this is a good guide for these forums. For $700 I would do a cam and a good service, get good gains out of that, next step, exhaust, let it breathe, Intake it pretty good in the I6 already, you would not need to look at it realy until you have big flow happening.
