Hey all,
I need new Heavy duty valve springs for my EL XR6, as I'm putting a wade 1521a in. Just wondering what brand you guys can suggest. I noticed JMM sell them but they are on the pricey side.
Cheers,
SIX

You should be ok with the EL XR6 valve springs as they are already heavy duty. If you do want new ones Crowcams sell the heavy duty springs as well as double valve springs.

Cheers mate. Just a quick question, what mods are you running on your EL? I'm aiming for around 200rwk but struggling to make it.

Getting the i6 to 200rwkw is an excericse in spending cash. Very hard to do without increasing the litreage. A very kind dyno and enough money to build a mild turbo setup that will push a lazy 200 or a hard 250 kw at the wheels.

When you got your engine rebuilt after the mechanic buggered the cam instal Gezza, did you go with oversized or standard pistons? Are you still at 4.0 litres?

Hey, yeah its not cheap going for 200rwkw and its not really something you would want to drive around as a daily. It does have the 50 thou oversize ACL kit in it.
Your going to need a bigger cam than the 1521a. Mine is a big billet cam, you need the head ported and more comp. Good flowing exhaust, bigger injectors, better ignition system and the standard ECU doesn't like big cams, even with the J3 chip. I have a Wolf v500 in mine.

Give Paul from CVE Performance a call he will help you get there.

i spoke to paul at cve and when i said i wanted to run a cam around the 1521a size he sugested running heavier springs than the xr6 type ones, he said they rent really much better than the stock ones i suppose. he is great to speak to and will give you his experienced opinions on getting the power you want, but i agree 200 kw naturally aspirated daily would be one hell of a pig to drive lol

Ok yep there you go, you need even stronger than the XR6 springs. I have the doubles in mine, they were about $150ish i think. Yeah Paul has been working on these engines for along time. He has managed to get ~230rwkw out of one and is pushing for more.

ACL don't do a 50 thou oversize piston. They are 0.5mm or 20 thou, and 1.0mm or 40 thou. They used to do a 1.5mm or 60 thou but no longer.

in my au i fitted camtechs au dual valve spring kit (they have stage 1 and 2 kits, the second stage requires machining, i only got stage 1) and one of their cams! it seems to go allright and should handle what you want comfortably! i also had mine tuned by cv performance. i think i only paid 220 for the spring kit with retainers.
