Sorry about my newb question but can someone please tell me if the EF 4.0L are the same as the EB 4.0L?
Would an XR6 EF drop straight into an EB? One other thing, how much does the AU 4.0L have over the EB - ?EF 4.0L would a conversion to AU XR6 be more worthwhile than the EF's XR6? Thanks guys!

It'll go in,
You'll have to remove the synchronizer and install the Dizzy. EB to EF is a different matter, you also need the timing cover and knock sensor to be drilled. So in your case, EF Long motor to EB is a straight swap!

you will need ECU as well...EL ecu is easier to wire up...also is your EB an EB2 does it have smartlock? if it does it will be easier also...thats if u want to use the manifolds and pulleys off the EF/EL/AU....or u can use your manifolds
now power gain going to AU its the same output as EF/EL

Short answer: No.
Long answer: No, you'll have to change a few things. Like using your EB engine harness, swapping over the ICS and TPS connectors as well as lengthening your intake manifold air temperature sensor connector. You'll also need to run your EB dizzy. To get the most out of the engine you'll need to run it off of a EL ecu... if your car is an EB series 1 (pre smartlock) you'll need to buy a smartlock bypass module. You'll need to convert to twin thermos too. This of course is unless you do it as just a block replacement and swap all your stuff off of your original motor onto the new one. |

depending on what you want to spend there is a auIII xr8 engine and auto complete for $4500 at the capalaba wreckers would be a mad conversion (not sure its possible though?)

He asked about the engine, not manifolds, ecu, looms, BBM, etc.
Long motors are Very simular.

if youve got a series1 EB then id just use the block and head from the EF and put all your stuff on it...
I did this a while ago and there was a definite improvement... if yours is CFI then u should at least convert to MPEFI....you can always upgrade the stuff slowly later as you go...do the BBM and thermos and EL ecu etc bit by bit...thats if you like playing with cars and want to learn

now power gain going to AU its the same output as EF/EL gogetta speaks truly, no power difference from the AU, although it does get a stronger bottom end, more reliable head gasket, revs smoother and a little longer, and will most likely have done less k's generally speaking. without doubt is the pick of the SOHC engines. you would have to modify either the AU's sump or your falcons cross member to get it to fit though.
