the fuel prices are so high because australia has the highest or one of the highest taxes on fuel in the world and all the oil we mine here gets exported to make jonnies economy look good here's a good diagram on tax back when fuel was $1.19 (ah those were the days)

Then again you have to think about how s**t the public transport is. I get the bus everyday and in the morning if im not on the bus by 7 im standing. After school if i dont get the bus at 3:20 im standing. The buses are all f**k with times e.g. mine comes at 3:20, 3:25, 4:00, 4:47, 5:15
The ones like the 3:20 are huge and have 5 or 6 people on them. The ones 4:00 and after are smaller and packed. If i get the 4:47 there isnt even enough room to get on.

The cigarette taxes i really couldnt give a s**t about because i dont smoke and dont intend to. If the government was really serious about stoping smoking then they would totally ban smoking anything. But they get sooo much from it.

Its the same for speed camera. They change the speed limit based on what scientists say. THEY DONT f**k DRIVE THERE WTF!!!!!!. Its a revenue raiser and the government loves it.

Like you guys said we could not buy petrol for a day but that wont work as you said. Some one will have to get it anyway and the next day everyone that didnt get it the day before will be filling up so the compainies dont care. I personally think they can drop the prices because there are all these shoper-docket things here where u can save 4c, 8c, or even up to 30c. JUST PUT THE PRICE DOWN MOFO.

Then again i get my P's Wed the 14th so no more bus and i pay 4 times the ammount to travelle. Its going to happen.

Whats even funnier is that my mum used to complain when petty was 70c/L. LOL

Yeah but in the cities we have to drive like maniacs because everyone is rushing to get somewhere. So we use fuel way quicker, hence we need it cheaper.

it gets exported because we don't own it...

I did a bit of travelling early this year. In the UK we were paying $2.60 australian per L. Went over to california where everyone is yelling and screaming about fuel prices and paid about $1 per litre (yet every 2nd car is a pickup with a 6L engine, SUV, mustang, etc).

We are somewhere in the middle. Considering our small spread out population and how far that excise money has to stretch I dont think we have to much to complain about.

how can you export something you don't own?if we didn't have public ownership of the oil it wouldn't reflect on the governments budget so much

that is da most sensible thing i ever heard... us people in the country get slugged sooo bad for fuel prices and yet it is our only means of transport. Even if it is to get to the big cities
suppose its up to the individual as to where you live as its a matter of choice... but yes, acknowledged.. country people have it worse... to do with petrol prices and transport systems..
