two things i remember from when nicko was looking at doing this when he still had his.
Tailshaft due to no manual lwb tailshaft made Computer Tailshaft is easy. youll have to get a custome one but computer maybe tricky as fairlanes have climate control and the sensor invovled to operate it are connected to ecu eg. amb temp sensor etc where as the cars available at the time that were manual did not maybe you could keep nf auto ecu to operate such things and some aftermarket ecu to control efi and elimate auto electricals |

No need to change the tailshaft. The gearboxes are the same length.
There is a how-to guide around if you search. It has the details of the wiring changes required to get it to work properly. |

I'm assuming the EF and NF are both 6 cylinders, if so it's pretty much remove the transmission out of EF and install into NF. Use the resistor trick on the auto ECU and it should run fine, might have some idle hunting issues. Can also use a J3 chip with proper tune and auto ECU to run the car much better than resistor trick.
Re-use the auto tailshaft out of the Fairlane, it should fit just fine behind the T5. Might be a good idea to send the tailshaft out for a rebalance and check, just in case the union joints are stuffed. Can't use the EF tailshaft because it's too short for the LWB Fairlane. IF either one of the EF/NF is a V8, then you have to change the input shaft of the T5 to suit the engine. They have different length input shafts on the T5s. Obviously if both were V8s, then it should fit just fine like the I6s.

I maybe be wrong but i thought the fairlanes had a slightly different tailshaft due to the fact they are a longer wheel base |

Tailshaft will be fine. Use the NF one from the auto. Plenty of people including myself have had no issues in doing this.
Re the ECU, you can try swapping in your EF manual ECU. The engine etc will run, but you will need to check if you loose anything from the climate control etc. The cluster info will be fine, but you will loose the gear selection in the middle. I just blanked that section off with some tape. I have the fairlane cluster in my eb wagon with a t5. I know a previous member who did this. Look up XR-Lane for his build thread. He put an AU motor and a T5 in his NF. If the ECU does have a problem, you can just trick the auto ECU with resistors to work with the T5. Cheers BenJ

everything should bolt straight in and work 100% perfectly with no modifications nessacary if you use everything out of the EF in the NF. They are the same car for these purposes.
