Hi All
i have yet another issue with my NL fairlane There was a bunch of errors most of them where my fault for not performing required actions during the diagnostic such as move wheel and push on the throttel. but there is one error i am worried about. Error Code 172. According to the book means the engine is running lean. now i have noticed it sometimes has trouble idling and will border on stalling out when the aircon enguages and disengagues, i have gone and put some injector cleaner in and have a fuel filter to install into it, what steps should i take to correct this? Regards Barry

172 is oxygen sensor on the exhaust, the ecu will richen up the fuel usage as this sensor is telling the ecu its running to lean. Replace oxygen sensor and you should be good

from what i can see an oxygen sensor is like $200 going by the online supercheap auto pricelist so it is not something i am willing to just replace unless i am sure that it is faulty. is there a way that i can test it?

Go to a wreckers and pick one up cheap to test, or a u-pull-it where you pick/remove the part and get it supercheap if that's to much you can try ebay. There's lots of auctions on eBay and if your lucky enough you might get one for 20$

I Have an NA fairlane beside it i need to put the rockers back into. could i potentially test it with that? and replace it with one from the wreckers if faulty?
or are they different?

Also have you tried to erase to fault code as it may be an old fault that's been fixed but not deleted? How many kms you get per tank?

Did you warm the hego before testing?
The hego will throw codes if not warm... You need to hold the rpm at 2000rpm for a minute or two in order to get the 'heated exhaust gas oxygen' sensor into its 'heated' state... Try that before swapping them over... Bet it's working fine... Cheers, Tim

i have picked one up from the wreckers to replace it for 15 bucks, i will try that in it and see if the car starts performing properly. hopefully it will start running more smoothly. it even seems to be misfiring sometimes. i think that again may be because the o2 sender.
We will see what happens I will still replace the fuel filter too. i have one there to replace it with. Regards Barry

Replaced the o2 sensor and upped the base idle a little and now i am getting code 111 system pass.
The car also seems to run a lot better now and does not seem to die out as if someone is chokeing it. Thanks guys
