Hi
I replaced my plugs with the NGK ZGR6B-11 on Sunday. They were different than the ones i pulled out of the car. (Possibly for standard NL?) Car seems to have a big performance improvement now. I figured I may as well do the leads next weekend too. I noticed the Bosch leads B6200i: Page 15 here: http://apps.bosch.com.au/products/saa/i ... _leads.pdf Only specify the XR6 engine for the EL models and not NL. These EL XR6 leads - B6200i will be ok wont they? Also... It looks almighty difficult to get at the top of the distributor to change these leads. Let alone change them with the conduit i see they have on them under there! Manifold off??? Any tips?

The other problem I am having is the dudes on the phone when i call to check prices on leads.. dont understand why I am asking for XR6 leads when i have a Fairlane.
Is this a problem? Looks like i can get Top Gun 8.8mm leads at a real good price through a friend at Autobahn, Read a lot of mixed reports on that brand in these threads though, seems most are happy. I would have gone for NGK leads if someone would stock the bloody things. I need to do this job tomorrow night so i cant wait till the end of the week to wait for stock,.

Leads are leads, there is no difference AFAIK between 'XR6' spec leads and others.
And if there was a difference, it would be minimal. Don't need to take manifold off to change, you can either pull off cap to change them, or pull them off one at a time, and replace that way, prevents you accidently putting the wrong lead on. Bit fiddly, probably easiest to do coil lead from under neath.

And if there was a difference, it would be minimal. According to the Bosch catalogue & NGK website, your right. So why do these peanuts on the phne at Supercheap etc make a fuss over it...

So the can suck you in for more money
Seriously though, easiest way I found is pull dizzy cap off by un-clipping the nearest one by hand and the one closest to block with a small flat screwdriver through the runners. Then pull cap out with leads all attached (obviously unplugged from spark plugs) and pull off and put new ones while out of car. Then feed the bunch of leads under manifold as far as you can (I can reach right up to cylinder 5 and poke up through runners 5 and 6. Then clip on dizzy cap (block side clip is to be clipped on while under car, very very easy) and the coil lead will be the fidlliest, but just get into position on cap and use a small blunt object to push down on lead and done. Half an hour later, (5 mins on my wifes hyundai) and grazed knuckles, burnt arms (if engine hot on heater pipe) and your done. Hope that helps. |
