Hi everyone...
I fired up the new motor today.. it had not been run for 3 months and the oil had gunked up a bit, so replaced the filter and put diesel oil in it so the detergents can clean it up before another oil and filter change in a couple of hundred km. Anyway, onto the problem.. she fired up nicely... but won't idle at all... ran smoothly.. but as soon as you took the foot off the gas... she dies. in the "common problems" tech doc.. it details an idle speed controller... but that tute appears to be EF/EL related and doesn't look anything like the ED motor... I'm assuming it does have one... but where is it? Also is there anything else I should look at to determine the idle.?? my old motor idled perfectly... so unless I forgot a plug somewhere, it's not electrical. any suggestions would be fantastic. rgds Frank |

Try cleaning out the Throttle body as well. ISC should be near the TB if the EDs had one, but i assume all of them had an ISC.
There may also be a vacuum leak somewhere. Could have missed a hose that was meant to be on. Check the MAP if the hose has come off. I would say timing but that should be checked last. Also...the computer has to relearn everything, so hopefully in time it will fix itself. phong =P~

Actually, it must have been just the computer...
started it again this morning and it idled. The oil light is on though, despite the smooth noise free operation,, so going to check the sender is plugged in. |

Ok. The idling is intermittent... it isn't idling now.
The oil light turns out to be simple.. the old Fairmont motor just had an oil light.. the new one must have had an oil pressure guage... so have to swap out the sender unit. Dunno what to do about the idle yet. |

I had the same problem with my ED after I changed the battery, it turned out to be the TPS or throttle positioning solenoid. there is a procedure to rectify this but I can't remember it accurately best ring ford or racq they might be able to tell you over the phone.
