Hey all, ive done a search but want to make sure if there are any other possibility's.
I took out the main lead which connects the coil to the dizzy so i could do a compression test. I went to plug the wire back in after I finished and now there is no spark. There is no spark going to the dizzy. I tested it by using a screw driver to see if there is a spark.
So this is leading me to think that the coil is stuffed. Could it be anything else which I could of forgot to look at? My car is a el running on gas. I check the fuses inside the car and the ones near the overfill bottle.

Pretty typical situation on an el falcon. TFI module fails.

To test module in dizzy. disconnect the wires going to coil. Put an LED test light onto the terminals of the wiring going to the coil. If you get no pulse when someone cranks the engine, i'd say module is cactus in dizzy. If you have pulse, then i'd say the coil is cactus.

The TFI module is what tells the coil when to fire the spark. If the module is cactus, there will be no spark.

If you need info of how to replace the module. E-mail me

conlan_abu@hotmail.com.

I've done a few.

if you disconnect the coil lead to the dizzy, you need to place the lead close to the engine block, so the spark can still jump from the coil lead to the block, if the spark cant jump, the stored energy in the coil has to go somewhere, it will usually break down the internal insulation in the coil itself, or kill the tfi module.
You will need to check both...

I only disconnected the side of the plug which connects to the dizzy. So it was still attach to coil. But I left it hanging there. So most likely it burnt out the coil?

yeah, if that lead wasnt within 5 - 10mm of a ground point, then the spark cant jump, and yeah, its either killed the coil or the tfi module. If your car has a tacho, and it pulses / jumps when you try start it, then chances are its the coil, but you will still need a spare coil to test to try isolate the issue.

I got a spare after market coil. Ill give that a try tomorrow.
When i crank the engine, the rev tacho stays at 0 rpms.
