My falcon started at work, made it around one corner and just cut out on me!! Fuel pump is relativaly new (2yrs), all of the leads have just been changed (general up keep) but there is nothing through the leads to the plugs.

Here's where it gets interesting, the mechanic has changed the coil, lead and the dissy and still gets nothing. He is talking about changing the module but i have heard this could be pricy and i do not want to be taken for a ride before i get the thing back if you know what i mean. I brought the car 6 years ago and he is questioning me if an alarm has been fitted, i don't think so, but i'm not sure. Does anyone know if it may be something to do with the SmartLock wiring? doing my head in this car!

Am i correct in my reasoning that if the probelm is only in that area ie. module to the coil, through a wire to the dissy and from there through the leads...... that there can not be nuch more to check bar the SmartLock.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thnx for your time, .

I believe the Smartlock is the only 'alarm' on it, if he is good enough he'll do it although i'll mention it next time i bust his balls about it.

He ahh.. may have cable towed me (he definately didn't tow me if you work in the beaut police force  ) and since the car doesn't work i do not know how i'll move it for any more quotes.

Maybe i should get it to an auto eleccy type person!

if smartlock has immobilised the car, you will not hear the fuel pump whirl when you put the key to the ON position. also, the smartlock light will remain on and/or flash (can't remember which - someone will be able to tell you!)

What "module" is he talking about replacing? If he has put in a new dizzy, it should have come with one on the side already - if thats the TFI module he's talking about.

Need more info. Is the car cranking? Is there spark or no spark?

Go back to basics - Air, Fuel , Spark. And things related to supplying each of them.

The car cranks over but doesn't fire and there is no spark through the leads.

He said the lead from the coil to the dizzy was changed and a new coil triied and still cranks but still doesn't start.

Plenty of life in the battery tho.

is your interior light working or have you modded your car stereo? the reason im saying this is because if you pull out your interior light fuse your car will crank but wont start and it wont obviously if its blown because its connected to the smart lock circuitry. the stereo is also as far as i know on the same circuit as the interior light.

I agree with EB93.....my old xg ute played up like that, found out that it was smartlock screwing with me...no interiors lights....but stereo worked.....

Then as i was playin in my ef....found that the stereo works as a "power station for the smartlock, hence the security code s**t that comes factory....

if 2 specific wires arent connected to stereo and pumpin power throu it, the circuit becomes incomplete and car wont start.....really has nothing to do with code....but its a possibility as to why your car wont start....stereo installer didnt complete this cercuit....

Yeah HELL,i came across that when i was putting a head unit in my girl friends car.I cut the earth supply for the Smartlock module and was wondering why didnt it have spark. Thus the 2 wires need to connect and then will close the circuit.Simply mistake, wont be making that on again...Also im pretty sure that smartlock only illiminates the supply of spark, not fuel...I'm not 100% sure though. Will check up on it.

The car has been running fine for the last 2 months since the stereo was put in and i also remember turning the stereo off while triing to wind it over after it stopped.

Hmm, only a suggestion to add to your list, but have the mechanic test out the MAP sensor. A while ago my car was running, although very roughly, and i had my MAP sensor changed and it made a world of difference. Again...only a suggestion, nothing wrong with having a look.

He was talking about plugging in his little computer.
It's manuel and had plenty of grunt in the morning on the way to work, just a bit of 'evasive' driving to get around some of the muppets that block up the road. That's why it's so suprising and annoying.

If you turn the key on can you hear the fuel pump run for a few secs?

It sounds to me like something as simple as a relay

The car ran for long enough for me to get on to the 3 lane road in peak hour so i couldn't really hear that well.

I had the cover of it when the mechanic arrived but he said it wasn't the pump. Having said that he is not impressing me with this 'don't know what is wrong' routine going on.
