You may be lucky and they're just noisy because they're gunked up. Put around 0.5-1litre of ATF in your oil (make sure you don't overfill it) and run for about 1000k's then refil with quality oil. If they are just gunked then this will fix it.
It's an old trick that rodders in the US use on dirty engines. Works a treat as AFT has very high detergency levels. I always do this on every car I buy. It is amazing how much this will clean up dirty engines. cheers Scott

i had all of them out a few days ago stripped them cleaned them changed the rocker gear as well but its really noisy on cold startup and 1 or 2 of them keep going for 10-20 minutes and when there doing this it sounds like its missing a cylinder

I think when I last read the workshop manual that you are supposed to pre charge them with oil first. Did you do this when you stripped and cleaned them? If not it may be wise to try a really thin oil for a few days/weeks to try and get them full.
Just sounds like they're not charging up. cheers Scott

i put a bit of oil in but you cant put much in because you cant squeeze the lifter back together without it falling apart from pressure .maybe i should just buy new one ,i did get them from a wreckers

You can pre charge the HLA, just fill them with oil, start to assemble with the retaining ring sitting in place, using a thin piece of copper wire release the pressure of the ball bearing/valve in the end of the HLA that sits in the rocker, push the two parts of the HLA together while releasing the pressure with the wire, when the retaining ring clips into place the you will have a HLA that if not fully charged very close to it. Local engine re-conditioner showed me this system. Use copper wire as this wont damage the ball bearing.

Yep the 4.0L OHC Hydraulic Lash Adjusters. The HLA should have a plastic retaining ring which holds it together and also retains it in the rocker. You cant really see the ball bearing, but when you look at the end of the HLA that sits in the rocker you will see something shiny, thats the ball bearing/valve. Gently press on this with the copper wire and the oil/pressure is released. A new set of retaining rings cost about $30 there not necesary but help when put every thing back together.
