Hi. recently did the head gasket on my ed fairmont and now every time i start it up when its cold, or been sitting around for a few hours it tapps like a lifter is dry or stuck, then goes away, never lasts more than 9 seconds.
just wondering if this will ever go away? maybe i should a different grade oil?

seeing if anyone has ever had this problem?
cheers

thicker oil actually takes longer to warm up/thin down which creates more noise on startup. Usually only a fix for full time noisy lifters. My advice is get used to it.

I use 5w 40 oil in my EB and it always runs and starts quiet. When i used 50w it was noisy on cold starts for a few secs. Try a thinner oil and see how it goes providing your lifters arnt stuffed.

I would suggest this is too light for a coon, something a bit heavier if you get oil pressure issues would be suitable as well.

Thats a very heavy oil. might make the lifters worse.

sure would be quiet though... lol

That stuff sounds expensive.
I run a lucas oil stabiliser in my cars with high km's, its like liquid vaseline,100% petroleum. seems to keep things coated while shut down, making for quieter starts and operation and picks up oil pressure.

I'd never run anything thinner than specified and I also wouldn't take too big of a step up either it's likely to upset things that aren't upset yet...

Use Atomic anti pump lifters for it.
