I have a full new set of lifters in the rocker arm assembly ina newly built engine recently. Its running on running oil which is like mineral water thickness. One of the lifters is ticking REALLY loudly. Is this due to the thickness of the oil or what?

most probably, if they are hydrolic lifters. hydrolic lifters require a certain oil viscosity to hold pressure and give precise amount of lift other wise they compress causing a "gap", hense the tick.

mmm that is fine in that department then. you could of got a little bit of dirt inside one of the lifters. go to repco and buy "lifter Cleaner" its only about $9. wack it in when you do your next oil change and see how that helps

or you could stop stessing about the engine
and get the oil changed before you blow it up. hint hint and change the leads and thermostat while you are at it |

oops, i didnt realise the WHOLE engine was brand spankers. But yea, the lifter noise is most likely from the running in oil.

running in oil you say.. straight 30??
drain it out and run it in on a 20w50 straight mineral oil the running in oil should only be in it for 500km at the most if you reallly think you must use it. should be able to knock that up in less then a week. then get the crap out of it ASAP |
