i'm assuming it's noisy lifters making the 'tick-tick' noise. i had one replaced recently but just then when i gave the car a bit one came up really loud for a few minutes then f**k off again. what happened?

if it did that after replacing them it'd b cause the new one had no oil in int but it got there eventually?
lifters smifters...who cares if they r working properly a lil ticking never killed neone. |

well the thing is they're usually noisy first thing in the morning for about 10 seconds, then i guess the oil gets to them.
but i'd been driving for a few minutes already, and then i floored and it started making the noise. weird.

might not be lifters, might be injectors. mines doing the same thing...then again, could also just be my car

could be timing chain slapping around..
If its as loud as youre describing, I'd doubt its the injectors.

I've replaced 4 of my tappets and they are usually noisey until the oil gets to em... then the tap comes and goes occasionally...
I don't know why, but new tappets don't seal inside the rocker arm like the originals... Its annoying cause everytime I take the rocker assembly out all my newer tappets and the shims all fall out into the engine bay...!!! Arrgghhhh... Its like there is some vacume holding the older tappets into the arms, but the newer ones don't have that vacume... and I've taken the whole lot apart and I have concluded its not the shim, or the oil lines. Like you said... I still get that tapping noise after the new tappets are installed, but its not as permanent. I guess I'll have to live with the embarrasment of the 'ticking time bomb' whenever I pull up to the lights!

mine used the make a similar sound, but it was a small whole in the echaust gasket, between cylinder 3-4 or something, anyway, thought it was timing, tappets, injectors, until I really, really, got my ear IN there, and realised where it was coming from... try it, you'd be surprised.
Cheers

this in inherant of e series I6 motors, had 5 of all done it, all had tappets and lifters replace to try and shut it up, I think an EL I have withthe AU hybrid engine was about the best of em, It was there but very faint, maybe the AU top end was a start to the solution,
the worst noise maker was the EF XR6 with the core pack, the tappets and the core pack were a bad combination, noise wise anyway..

If you have cheap oil filter they don't have anti drain back and air gets into oil galleries for some time...
Re adjusting timing chain adjuster on side of block can help..Thicker shims can be added to adjusters as well..Carefull though, breaking that plastic looking hla seal lets them full out on assembly..pita..

I put a bottle of that "Nulon-Lifter Free-up & Tune up " in at every oil change and it seems to go after initially about 300km of driving then I dont have it until I go to change the Oil again. I have the same lifter tick with all grades and types of Oils.I think it is just an E series Gremlin but not a severe problem unlike the Oil thirsty Gen 3 issues
