The noise may be the timing chain rattling slightly. Try taking out the timing chain tensioner and cleaning the small oil filter there.

i had thought that at first but the rattle is coming from the centre or rear of the engine..
the rocker cover must act like a cave(causing an amplified echo) or something because without the rocker cover no noise can be heard...
