ok the fuel filter, u need a plastic little tool that u can get from the auto shops. The clamp thing, just squeeze em together with a pair of pliers of multi grips

Thanks mate, I didn't know I could buy the tool......I thought it was some expensive ford thing.
Also, the clamp on the bottom radiator hose isn't one of those push together ones (they are on the overflow tank), its a normal 'screw' clamp, but has a round end - no screw head.... |

then simple, take it off from the other end of the hose
i.e. if that is on the engine side, take it off from the radiator or vise-versa

thought of that - same type of clamp......

Here it is....this is a top hose onto the water pump, but its the same type of clamp....

Ok, Its the numbnut at it again - I've just worked out I think its a cover that slips over the screw head....am I correct?
I can't get the f**k off to get the the screw though.... |

That is a cover that is easily removed with pliers and thrown in the bin

OKies, Got the damn cover off with a lot of swearing etc.
Drained it, filled it and stuck in the radiator flush. Now, I don't have time to drain the flush out and refil with water/coolant, but I'm wondering if its ok to leave the water/flush mixture in overnight - considering the flush stuff is 'alkaline salts'. Salt = corrosion??? Or is overnight ok. Thanks.....but I will leave it for the mechanic next time. Now, I was thinking of getting an XD/XE or something as a project - I'm assuming they are pretty straight forward with their connections etc? Cause if an easy job like today has caused me dramas I don't like the thought of doing too much more with an old thing.... |

You need to run it for a while to ensure the flush is right through th engine heater core etc. Leaving it overnight should be ok. I heard of people leaving it in for days. Next time you will be experienced, and it wont be difficult. XD-XE very basic, but still need servicing, and TLC as they get older.

Yes, I guess next time it will be easy. I realise the old things need work, which is why I want to buy one as a project, to learn a bit more on it, expecting to do things. Just wondering if they have odd bloody connectors and covers just to piss us off like the AU seems to!!! Shall get some demineralised water tonight and do it in the morning. I ended up getting the Valvoline GO5 concentrate. I thought the previous mechanic who serviced it said they use GL5, but the place I got it (where they get it too) only stock one called G05 so I assume thats what they mean. I haven't noticed it before, because I don't usually sit it in the drive running, but how much water is normal to be coming from the exhaust?? As long as it is green it should be ethylene gycol based. From memory your coolant was green wasn't it? Water from the exhaust. More than likely just condensation especially if its been sitting for a while. Did your car use water previously? if not I wouldn't worry.

hehe...
i was talking to the ford tech line at work today about some other stuff turns out they changed to the pink stuff because it is environmentally friendly, but they had problems with it eating rubber seals in water pumps and heater taps, and the colour coming thru hoses. so early in the AU's they changed back |
