Hi fellas,
I took my EL out for a spin today 35 degree day so I had my aircon on. And I noticed my temp climbed all the way upt to O on the word "normal" on temperature gauge. Is that fairly normal? Because in the past I have never really seen it go past "M". And it just local driving around 30kms all up. |

probably not the ideal temp to keep you in the happy zone, but within the word normal is still considered pretty normal...

Haha. I know what you mean mate. It was still within normal however more on the unhappy side for me I am thinking about putting in a cooler thermostat.
Any downsides to that? |

you can go down to a 87deg thermostat from the 91 thats standard without issues..
some have gone as low as 82 deg, but 82 is a bit low for my liking.. |

no, not that ive found, i ran a 87 in my ed and now running a 87 in my au..
all it really does is slighly lower the normal operating temp.. |

"Normal" is an overused word. "Average" is better. What your car coolant temp runs at, will never be the same as anyone else's. There are so many variables to consider, such as, state of your radiator, thermostat range, igniton timing, compression ratio, fuel type, blah, blah...... There's not that much difference between 'cold' and 'hot' on the gauge. Not sure exactly, but, something like 15-20 degrees. So in 35* heat, with the air con running, the gauge could sit on half, all day. Thats the 'normal' operating range. If its in the red, you have a problem.
Also, Engine oil is designed to run at a certain temp, running too cold makes the oil 'sludgy'. Just my thoughts.. |

This is a radiator from an EL Falcon....the temp on the highway was normal, but in town it did climb.
These are grass seeds....they were inbetween the radiator and the a/c condencer.

Looks like that radiator has seen some tough days. I am installing a water to air intercooler shortly i will give my radiator a good clean at the same time!
