OK....I washed the car and thought I'd do the engine bay to clean up after the head gasket change...
Covered the dizzy (not the coil, didnt think about that) and cleaned with pressure washer and degreaser.. The engine was warm, not hot, so I waited a bit to let it dry off then started it....turns over and over, doesnt start... Checked for spark at plugs...nothing...hooked up inductive timing light to the lead between coil and dizzy...no flash...check input to coil...12V with ignition on...SO... Does that mean the coil is shagged? I checked the resistances in accordance with the gregorys, they both check out ok...could the coil still be buggered even if these resistances are ok...? Bugga me ur havin a bad week!! hahahah
get a can of CRC or WD40 and spray absolutely everywhere!! Coils either go or they dont!! If it cranks over strongly points to fuel normally along with ignition! Very vague !!! Start ur checkpoints from battery etc But normally after water has been applied ignition is usually the fault!!!!! Good luck!!

I can't see the coil being at fault (but then again ). Seems too coincidental with the washing - may be let the engine sit for a few hours, since it's warm, it might evaporate the water that may be causing the problem.
You may have gotten water into the TFI plug - it's normally got silicon grease around it to seal it, or you could have some condensation inside the dizzy cap. If the coil primary and secondary resistances and input voltage is okay, I would be looking toward the dizzy - TFI, cap, and hall effect switch. I was going to suggest checking that the CRT LP fuse isn't blown, but if you reckon you have 12v to the coil, that may not be at fault. All in all I would think it's water related.

Yep...water is somewhere or has done something...so it wouldnt be the coil?
I get 12V to the coil but no output from the coil....doesnt that mean its rooted??? I tested the coil output by putting a timing light (inductive) over the lead from the coil to the dizy and cranked her over...got no flash of light... |

I done exactly the same thing and it wouldn't start. Afters some investigation I found that the coil had fail and was causing the problem. Replaced it and away I went. Possible the same problem, but you'll have to keep checking. Good Luck.

dude u have water in the dizzy, some has somehow got into it and will not let spark go to plugs
a good way to check is to take coil lead off dizzy cap and place near metal and crank engine this will show the coil is working rip the dizzy cap off spray some crc in there and let it dry for a bit the replace and try to restart the car

Have you got water in the spark plug recesses in the head ?
Check your lead from coil to dizzy with a meter. Check your plug leads with a meter. Jeez Scotty, you are having a bad week.

lol tell me about it!!
It must be somewhere in coil/dizzy..as far as I can work out, it HAS to be coil..there is no output from it...unless something in the dizzy is shorting it to ground...which I can prove tomorrow by removing the coil output lead from the dizzy then check for power from the coil... |

Tried looking at the PCM memory? Might give you a fault code telling you what sensor / gizmo has gone to god... Good luck!

I didnt point the pressure washer directly anywhere near the ignition stuff...
I put a new coil in this morning, all is working now! I think im going to leave my car alone for a while lol...cant afford anything else to go wrong! Thanks for all the help! |
