Im thinking about putting an XR6 cam in my engine for two reasons. One because I want to change the cam and rockers so I can use eseries cams with my hybrid motor and two because Im hoping it will give me a slight performance boost with the xr cam. How much of a boost can I expect?

waste of time if your going to go to the effort of changing cams. speak to chris at wade cams. he will regrind u one that will run ten times better. i bought a wade 1636c977b cam and mine now goes like a rocket. dont put an xr6 cam in they only go an extra 7kw at engine extra and that was with different head and computer as well so maybe like 3-4kw at engine on stock motor. not worth it. speak to chris at wade cams u wont regret it

3-4kw is being pretty optimistic.

For everyday driving, probably wouldn't notice anything.
Down a dragstrip maybe. For instance, I ran a stock EL ECU in my Ghia once. At the same point in the road, the stock ecu would be 15 to 20km/h slower than the XR ECU. So there must be something in their cams and tuning that give a bit more poke. |

speak to BOSS 4LTR
He has my el xr6 cam in his el futura, and he did notice a decent gain... it also depends on who is doing the install, because where its dialled in at and ignition timing does matter...

I would first pre-empt what l'm about to say by stating that l have no desire to get into an argument with anyone about what the Ford workshop manual says or what any Ford technical data might suggest....If you disagree with my remarks, that's fine, I'll make no further comment.
With respect to the E series XR6 cam, we've checked it physically, twice, on our cam doctor gizmo and the difference between it and a standard cam is, how shall put it from a technical perspective.....BUGGER ALL. The performance gains achieved by the XR6 engine cannot, for the most part, be attributed to the cam. If you want a performance cam, get one from any one of the camshaft organisations that are frequently mentioned on this forum, which includes Wade Cams. The AU XR6 camshaft on the other hand is a different proposition altogether. Cheers Chris WADE CAMS |

I don't seem to be able to get that answer on what the differences are but you'd assume there is a difference otherwise why would they bother. I put an ED XR6 cam into my 3.9 EA MPFI and like most people said there is a small difference, but what I have noticed is the engine just goes that last 500 rpm up to 48-5000 rpm easier - maybe not much in power, but it feels a touch better.
I remember putting a cam in my L98 VE Commodore and that gave me 30% more power. Seems nothing like that on offer for the Ford 6 without more stuff being done.
