going to the servo tonight i noticed that the e10 fuel is sitting at about
$1.32! and the premium fuels are at about $1.40 odd! i was putting the top line premium fuel in my baby but now im going to put straight e10 in her! why has the price of fuel gone through the roof ! someone please tell me! i was putting a 500ml bottle of wyns racing fuel to every tank but with the price of fuel i'll be using straight e10 until the price drops! |

I've been using 100ron from United for over a year. I gain about 5rwkw over 98.
Also use a splash of E85 now & then for a couple more rwkw. Never had any fuel system issues. 100ron consistantly stays around $1.34 which is less than 98 is. Atleast here in SA.

Yes i do mean Norlunga, Morphett Vale, Christies Beach area !
Also what is Octane really? and what parts of the car can it clean? I filled up with 98 from Both Mobil, and BP and just want to know what Octane is and how the fuel helps clean a motor !

I filled up with 98 from Both Mobil, and BP and just want to know what Octane is and how the fuel helps clean a motor ! The octane rating of fuel is purely its resistance to knock. It is NOT a measure of the actual amount of octane in the fuel. (hence you can get fuel with an octane over 100) RON is tested with a variable compression ratio single cylinder engine. Mixtures of iso-octane and n-heptane are tested. Pure iso-octane will achieve an RON of 100, and n-heptane will achieve and RON of 0. A sample fuel is tested in the engine and the compression ratio is increased until the fuel knocks. the ratio is then checked against the result from testing the iso-octane and n-heptane, if the sample fuel knocks at the same compression as say a 91/9 mix of iso-octane and n-heptane, the fuel is deemed to be a 91 RON fuel. To measure above 100ron the graph is simply extended beyond 100 at the same rate of change. |
