I have one.. got it on ebay for 35 bucks about a year or two ago..
what do you want to know? I can't be stopping much oil as the thing still isn't registering any on the guage. I got mine originally because of crud inside my intake manifold.. and it has stayed clean now, but I Don't know how long it took to get full of crud the first time so it may not be macking much difference.. or it might. |

i've run a few different setups on my ea mongrel and found that some collected more oil than others, but none of them prevented the buildup of oil in the inlet manifold.
the way i see it is any oil it does 'catch' is oil that isn't being combusted. thing is how much oil is it catching and how efficient is the catch can ? seen alot of people use one brand then shytebag every catch can on the market. not that i have any marketed product advice, i made my own purely for an engineering experiment.

I was under the impression they're virtualy useles unless you've got bad blow by problems or an forced induction setup

i just wanted to know if they served any propose i dont see many cars will them so i thought id ask i searched google just to get a idea on how they are setup i noticed 1 guy from a skyline forum used steel wool in his .. it acted like a filter as the oil/air vapor passed though it it had taken the oil and let the air past
ive never seen a oil catch can setup on a 4.0l wouldnt mine seeing some pictures i'll do a google search and see what i can come up with also wouldnt mind know the benifit of those little pod filter like things i have seen floating around in peoples engine bays |

I made one for a Sierra I have here.. engine is in good nick but oil goes up the intake and dirties the filter over time.. it has worked a treat.. filter is spotless and catch can has oil in it.
I am leary of steel wool only in case some of it comes loose and goes up the intake.. could do some serious damage. |

I was curious about the filter about a fortnight ago too. Chuck a filter on both rocker cover vent holes and then see how freely the engine revs. Compared to normal it revved so easy and smooth. At idle you could see the crankcase vapour coming out of the filter and after one half hour drive the filter was totally wet with oil mist.
If it was legal I would keep the filters on. Am waiting to get cash for J3, and then will be off to willowbank and will check then to see if any better time with just filters on? If you're gonna try it, get the filters with the larger opening (i got the cheap Calibre ones from supercheap). It will fit straight on the rear vent, but the front vent, I found that a 9/16 socket (with a hole through the middle of course fits perfect in the filter and the pcv vent rubber. Dont forget to plug up the pcv hose (pull pcv off hose, plug with tape, bolt, whatever)

I have a catch can setup on my 347. It does catch a fair bit of oil and does help keep vapours out of my intake. Ya need to keep it in a cool location in the bay I find. Helps vapours condense faster. As far as I'm aware, Big cubed engines and boosted motors are where they are most effective.

I got a boosted 6cyl with bad blow by issues, hense a new motor being built, but yeah my catch can is highly effective. was even more effective at filling with caramel sauce when my head gasket let go! but then the motor fills with caramel sauce when that happens.
But I have a ½l can where the air box used to be, when the car gets driven it get ¼ full over a tank of juice. just pour it back in and off we go again. With the new motor being build the can will remain but hopefully the oil will nolonger gather in such large quanties. This is an extreme example though. Dave
