Hi guys
Just completed the routine oil change over and filter on my EF Fairmont. I have a bad oil leak as it is and not too sure where its coming from. All i know is that it is towards the front of the engine, with oil dripping on and off. Now for my question, when I went to take the filter off ( as bigger b**ch as it is to get off with the tool i bought and the small amount of room I have to turn it ) I noticed that it was fairly heavy and was almost full to the brim with oil. Im just wondering if this is normal as i have never come across this before Thanks DAniel |

Yes, a full filter is normal, as you can see from the angle that they mount that there is no way for it to drain.

I would say the 6 cylinder falcons have one of the better regular oil change setups....
My missus' civic is fekin ridiculous and my hilux isn't much better. Apparently imported asian cars are designed to be done by specially trained contortionist monkeys with midget hands in an anti-gravity chamber where the car can be manipulated on many angles.... Either that or they just don't care much for servicing, which they don't in japan. Ford 6's have awesome engine bay room. That's why people slap hair dryers on the side of them and so forth. Easy and cheap servicing is about the only thing going for fords so leave them alone  hehe

did you make sure the rubber o-ring came off with the old filter?

Was going to say that...my sister's fiance didn't remove the old o-ring and tightened the new one...turned the engine on for a second and oil went everywhere. Anyways, oil filter is meant to be full. Also regarding your leak...there are only a few places it can leak oil from the front...rocker cover gasket leak (especially at the semi circle bit) and sump gasket leak...other than that it might your power steering pump pissing out a bit of fluid. I suggest you remove the belt shroud, give the front a bit of a clean and after a week or 2 of driving, have a look where there is fresh oil coming from.

Also if you're struggling for room when removing the oil filter, try taking the airbox out 1st.
