A lot of interesting comments, particularly about the engine flushes. I personally have never used it, and change my oil every 3 months at whatever km's. It's easy to remember as it coincides with school holidays.
I always pre-fill the filter, but that is habit from older engines, does no harm Hot or warm seems to be the way of choice. A good discussion |

I do mine when warm, and add some oil to the filter.
Get a drip tray from Supercheap or where ever, drain the oil into an old oil container. You can keep a stockpile of old oil in the back corner of your shed then take them to the tip once you have a few, they'll dispose of it. |

EVL098 wrote: Oil changes for me are every 5000kms without fail. Both oil and filter are done. I do mine hot so all the sludge comes out. An oil change for me is a 4 cans of Jack job. One can getting it ready and dropping the sump plug. 2 cans letting everything drain out. It takes time. One can to fill it back up after changing the filter and finish off. I dont prefill filters. Too messy. It only takes 5 seconds for it to fill under pressure. I get 4.5 to 5 litres out all the time. It just takes patience or a couple of cans. So with one change being a 4 can job if all 3 of our cars are due at the same time (more often then not the case) I can be somewhat blind by the time Im finished! That's an expensive oil change ...but worth it I guess . I do mine when it's hot. Go for a drive to get it hot, drain oil and go watch a movie or something while it's draining. Usually get 4.5L or so from the sump, and a few more mLs out of the filter. I usually do an oil change every 5000km...but sometimes laziness prevails and it occurs every 10000km.

I generally drop the oil after a run - 10 000km and filter change.
Not much point doing it earlier with my LPG cars IMO. No filter prefill - I generally pull the CRT LP fuse and motor the engine over for about 20-30 secs to help the oil get to the valvetrain, then replace the fuse and start the car.

1- Warm engine till operating temp
2- Remove sump plug and drain oil into tray, allow 20-25 min to drain completly 3- Remove oil filter whilst oil is draining 4- Replace sump plug and fit new oil filter ensuring a light film of oil is applied to the filter seal, hand tighten all the way and back off 1/8 turn 5- Fill with new oil, amount depends on make and model, refer to vehicles hand book 6- Place sump oil into now empty oil container and dispose of at the tip its as simple as that guys |
