Buy an oil filter and a 5 litre container of oil.

They actually take 5.5 litres.
you can get away with 5 litres, depends how well it drains from the sump.

you're best of waiting till you're oil's on special and then buying a truckload of it! The capacity is 5.5 L, a 5 L container will just ot quite be enough. What visc. rating are you planning on using? 20-50W or 15-40W?

use 15w/40 if its in good condition or 20w/50 if its a bit of a oil burner

get some of that oil thinning stuff, forget its name, then drive 4 10 minutes then wait for the oil to cool then drain it ,it comes out like water and doesnt leave as much old oil in the engine.
cheers

There's a couple of products that do that. Most auto stores should stock em, they'll be called oil flush or something. |

make sure you have a filter wrench...
else you can use ya belt... undo drain plug... let it all drip in... then undo ya filter... all into the drain bucket thingy (take that under car with you...) while your waiting for all oil to come out... change ya spark plugs or leads or something (may aswell whilst your there, caus face it, you wont do it any time soon) put some new oil on your finger... and wipe it around the hole on the new filter.... (Valvoline V01, i believe) and yeh wipe it around the hole.... screw that in, screw drain plug in... empty bottle into engine..... then all the oil from the drainage bucket goes into the oil bottle and find the right place to dispose it, caus im sure you cant put it in normal rubbish bin?

and yeh wipe it around the hole.... screw that in, screw drain plug in... Ryco Z9, Repco ROF1 or Silverline OF1SL are the other part numbers if I remember right. I know the Ryco's definately right. |

And just to add my 2c worth. When I do mine for now on I'm starting is up without the ISC connected. Reason being as it revs to over 2000RPM and stays there for about 3 seconds because the oils so thin at the top of the engine. Can't be good for the engine IMO.

Yeah i would also agree with that, i had the K&N oil filter on the XF. Next service i do i will start using the K&N oil filter, see if that makes a difference at all in the XR..
