K&N oil filters will filter 98% at 35 microns,50% at 16 microns.

Donaldson endurence filters will filter
98.7% at 15 micron contaminants, 50% 7 micron.
they also have a higher dirt holding capacity and a higher crack pressure on the bypass valve

the cross reference for a ryco Z9 or motorcraft AFL1 is P-169071

I didnt like penrite because of that factor WildEB. Nice pressure, but lifter noise.

Was using Mitsubishi Oil 15W50 oil. API SM/CF in the ED Falcon, worked a treat with Nulon products as well. No issues at all, but felt like it burnt about a litre as well after 3 months which it also did on the EL XR6

Last change i went with on the EL XR6 i used Shell Helix HX7 K 15W-50 High Mileage, just to give it a try. Was like $31 on special so i thought why not. I always use a Nulon E10-20-30 additive or whatever and seems to do a good trick. I use the Nulon stuff as thats 500-600mls, and oil is like 5 Litres and yet car takes 5.5 litres so fills in the gaps nicely.

Previous experience with Shell was ok. Used about 1 litre of oil over 3 months or so. Cant remember exactly. I remember my mechanic changing my old shell oil for free, i supplied parts, said that it was golden and in great condition. Just gotta see how well it lasts in this car with this newer oil designed for high mileage.

i'm actually considering use a fuchs 0W20 next service. be interesting to see what happens,

I'm driving a 93 XG with 240 odd on the clock. On my last oil change, which was the first in this car, i opted for Magnatec, however now im getting oil pressure around 1-2bar and under 1 bar if pushed hard. It has lifter noise on startup for between 5-60 seconds and if taken to 100kmh very nasty lifter noise and oil pressure about 1 bar.

I havent checked the oil pressure manually as the lifter noise sort of verifies that its low.

Ive been told to run a litre of diesel in with my oil for 10 minutes drain it and go for a thicker oil, the second part seems to fit in with this thread. What i plan on trying is 15w50 first and if that doesnt fix it 20w60, what are your thoughts?

I finally managed to get hold of some GT1 0W20, It'll be going in the AU next week.
Costs twice the price of the current oil but it is a long drain oil so it will be staying in twice as long.

Will try and organize oil analysis every 2000km

My oil supplier has informed me that they offer oil analysis, Fuchs have in house oil analysis, but use an independent laboratory in an effort to prevent any bias.

I'm going to take a sample at 5000km and then every 2500 after that until testing shows the oil needs changing.

pretty sure that's not how it works
if they do the same as the mining industry
it just measures the amount of different metal particles/types
in the oil and tells you from that what parts are "wearing out " faster than the rest
and which ones need changing at that particular service
