Ok Thanks, already have done the diff, just wasn't sure what viscosity to jump to or transition over a couple of changes.

hello people!
heres my problem! i have my au i6 auto with 170'000 klm's and today was its oil change. before the oil change the engine was nice and quiet but just with dirty oil!! i have purchased this product today http://www.nulon.com.au/products/15W-40 ... ngine_Oil/ and a lovely k&n oil filter but since it received its oil bath it is making a sound like timing chain rattle or something almost like there is something rolling around in the motor! is this oil crap and should i replace it straight away! what could be causing this. thanks pete. |

Hi there,
Two weeks ago, I bought an EL dual fuel Falcon with 260k on the clock. It's now at 264k and I just did it's first oil/filter change in my custody. I used a motorcraft filter from Ford ($10) and Valvoline XLD Engine Armour 15w-40. Before the change, it was running Havoline Premium 20w-50 and a Ryco Z9. Today I was told that this is the wrong oil to run as my car is LPG. I've been recommended to drop the oil out and run Penrite HPR Gas 10 10w/50 oil. Is this necessary? Also, how often should I change the oil? Some people say 5k, some people say 10-15k if using a good quality oil. I will be doing about 3k every month for the next 6 months. Thanks Mark |

you can still run std oil with lpg, in saying that it also depends on how often you change your oil, and how much of your driving is on lpg..
i wouldnt waste the oil you put in, it wont hurt it, our old au was driven on lpg 99% of the time and used normal oil, but the oil was always changed at 5000km intervals... i would keep it in there for 5000km and if you want to use gas oil do it next time., |

i have been using Nulon 15w50 full synthetic in my Tickford 6 since i put the engine in. i also used a Motorcraft filter.
i am very happy. still a slight lifter rattle on hot start up but it's gone after about 5 seconds. never heard any unusual engine noises except once when i did about 7 hours straight of driving and i had pulled up home for the day, at idle there was a very very slight bottom end rattle. car is on lpg but i change the oil every 5000kms

Not supposed to do that, might be a underlying issue yeh i used penrite 15-60 and was told it was too thick when hot. thats why i thinned it out when hot to a 50

I have been using Valvoline oils for about 5 yrs and think its a great product and pushes itself and i have a oil test on bearings and Valvoline came on top. Valvoline Engine Armore 15w-40 is great and now have switch to DuraBlend Semi Synthetic 15w-50 and personally think its really good product. Things ive noticed is my engine oil comes out not as black and better oil pressure with 15w-50 so seems to me it dosent break down as quick which is a good thing. Have tried Nulon but engine was ticking so ditched that and straight back to Valvoline products

Thanks for the reassurance. I will definitely be changing every 5km's. I also saw the bearing test where valvoline scored highly which is why I took the opportunity to get it at $19 from supercheapauto! I might go to durablend 15w50 or Penrite Gas 15 next time.

Changing oil every 5000 is recommended by many manufacturers even though the service intervals vary between 10 and 15000ks. If your car isn't a taxi or police car, or a vehicle of that kind of use, and goes through alot of cold to hot heat cycles the oil loses its viscosity and picks up more s**t, especially at start up. Cop cars and taxis can run far longer as the engine is generally running all the time and doesnt cool down, which helps the oil live that much longer. Ask around. I change mine every 5000, regardless.
Ive just chucked some of that helix 25/60 high millage stuff in today. Damn those lash adjusters dont like it when its cold.... Nice to have oil pressure though and I have to admit, it runs smoother. |

Costs twice the price of the current oil but it is a long drain oil so it will be staying in twice as long. Will try and organize oil analysis every 2000km My oil supplier has informed me that they offer oil analysis, Fuchs have in house oil analysis, but use an independent laboratory in an effort to prevent any bias. I'm going to take a sample at 5000km and then every 2500 after that until testing shows the oil needs changing. pretty sure that's not how it works if they do the same as the mining industry it just measures the amount of different metal particles/types in the oil and tells you from that what parts are "wearing out " faster than the rest and which ones need changing at that particular service You can do the sample at any point you want to. This is more an exercise in proving viscosity has pretty much stuff all to do with how well an oil lubricates and hopefully show people that this fascination with using thick oil for protection is crap. It's at 5000km now. Hasn't used a drop of oil, I'll be tanking a sample next week then it's just wait for the test results |

i used nulon fully synthetic 15w50 and i'm not entirely impressed.
i've done 3500kms since last oil change and the oil is already black and when the engine gets hot (hard driving or long trip) the oil pressure is below 1 bar and there is a slight knock. now i doubt it's the engine because it is very healthy (15.7 1/4 mile, f**k all mods) i use a motorcraft filter. what do you guys reckon. i don't wanna got thinner than the standard 15w40 either

i changed to the nulon synthetic oil before my last oil change, i had no oil pressure isues or engine noises.
the only reason i changed the brand of oil this time was for some strange reason when i used the nulon synthetic the engine weeped oil from every seal and gasket.. so im back using penrite hpr10 again and now no more leaks |
