What oil is best recommended for dual fuel cars, and why are you meant to use a different oil with a dual fuel car?

hey all this is my first post in a while i have been lurking for sometime.
id just thought id share my experince i just had relating to this theread. just got a eb II thought id do all the lube filters etc..anyways turns out changing an oil filter in your driveway takes 6 hours ..when you cant find the tool to get it off..and the crossmember is located in the most ridiculous place possible..so 3 broken screwdrivers 4 deep cuts and a filter that looks like a trodden on coke can and i got it off now i realised the oil im have is said to be bad (castrol gtx 3 15w40) dont you just love life? ps sorry for having a mope on my kinda first post |

Not many people here seem to use Valvoline, I have for years and never had any probs at all.
In my current car, an AU Falcon 6 that has just a tad over 790,000kays (nope not a mistype) was an ex cab with the original motor still in it, that was my natural choice to continue with the oil that has served me well. I use the 10w30 and have just been over to sydney to pickup a car and it used 1/2 litre during the trip which considering the engines age isnt too bad. Yes this is a duel fuel car and cant see any reason to change to a LPG oil as most of them seem to be in 20w50 range anyway and not suitable for the AU. and the secret to removeing oil filters is you dont put the dam things on so tight, I usually can just grab mine and using a bit of force undo it. remember it just has to seal not be done up with a torque wrench to 100flbs or anything. Dam well makes it easier (and less swearing) on the next oil change

I was running valvoline in the old sigma and it had 3oo,000+ kays on it, so that shows ya. just changed in the ef from shell lpg stuff to prolube, trouble is i have to get it from my mechanic, so might go back to shell haha

averages about 14c in winter to about 42c in summer so quite a big range here in SA

ah was thinking that 30 thickness would have been possibly too thin at warmed up operating temps?
thats a nasty temp range i take it there is not much humidity there ey. damn rains out of my condensation pipe up in townsville and sometimes in brisbane. 20w 50 i think is what i use in the ef? what you reccomend for the 4 litre

hey guys
I have an ef s2 falcon and I was wondering what a good oil choice would be. I recently had the engine replaced by a ford spares place in the ACT and they put HPR 30 in it which seems a little thick at 20w60. I was wondering if I should stick with this, try HPR 15 at 15-50 or maybe motul 4100 power which is a semi synth??? cheers James |

Well, I don't even run that thick in my EF with 175,000km.
Probably won't do any harm, but I'd go for something a bit lighter. |
